Virgin Media

Like so may people with land line and mobiles I continually get lots of calls now from scammers. The usual culprit making out they are from Microsoft technical dept. Yesterday it happened to me 3 times and on the 3rd time I answered as Microsoft. The guy the other end said rubbish and I am going to kill you.

I phoned Virgin Media and explained the situation and first of all told me various things I could do. Then the very helpful lady said let me look at your account. The advisor then said as I had been with them for over 15 years she would change my telephone number for free and waived the £25.00 charge.

However the only calls I get on the landline is from scammers so will cause me no hardship. Also made sure it is now ex directory.

So my thanks to Virgin for all their help.

I'm glad VM were helpful, they do have a policy of offering one number change free in the case of nuisance calls. Sadly I doubt it will be long until similar calls start again, they just call any old number until they get someone they can con. Plus your new number will more than likely have been used elsewhere in the past, so it could already be on a list under another name.

I don't even have a landline plugged in anymore for this reason.

Was just gonna point out. Being ex-directory won't help. They dial random numbers.

It would be much more helpful if VM provided caller ID free of charge.

I get it free from them, but not long ago I was out of contract and haggled on renewal of a new contract, they chucked this in very, very easily.

I feel like i am missing out because i have never received a call from a real scammer. In the last few years i've only received 2 of these calls and one was a recorded message about being involved in an accident and one was a call from someone saying i needed life insurance.

    So no fun at all!

Well good for you, but they should still provide it free of charge as standard.

Thanks, it's worth knowing that they will do this (unsurprising really considering I expect that it costs them close to zero to provide it - the number is obviously there as 1471 will tell you it after the call).

Why are you paying for a phone line you don't need? Get rid. I went BB only with VM proper bliss.
