3's Msn Messenger - Nokia N73

Hi,
I have yesterday got myself a 18 month contract with 3 and had the nokia n73 for free on the talker 20 pound a month deal. When i got the phone I charged the phone fully then flashed it with the latest nokia unbranded firmware, now i noticed i had a few things free like msn messenger which do not come with this firmware pre-installed.

Now i have obtained 3's msn messenger through the internet and transfered it to my phone and installed but when i go to sign in, i choose access point "3 wap" and then wait a minute and recieve the following error "cannot connect to service, this may be due to incorrect settings roaming restrictions."

Now the most obvious answer would be is your N73 is not 3 branded, but i read many people doing it the way i want to.
Also it may be because i have not set the internet to pay per mb used (no add on enabled)
Also it may be because i haven't rang 3 up to register any details to do with my account but i can amke and recieve calls/texts fine so cant be arsed.
Also it may be because i am using the wrong access point - "3 wap"

But one thing i never tested was msn messenger before i flashed the phone to see if it would work so i dont know if it did or didn't

I do not know the solution thats why i wondered if anyone has had the same problem and knows a solution

Thanks

Aha - unless I have remembered this wrongly the 3 version of messenger is not a Microsoft build like the Windows Live one I have installed on my T-mobile phone - I read somewhere it is built to proxy through their own network as part of the X-series offering. This would also explain why it is 'free'

For the non-3 version I expect you need the data package as it'll use the standard web package.

I'm not registered but have a look at www.3g.co.uk/3GForum/showthread.php?t=49142 if they have any info there.

  • will it is the phone but dont know where to start because i might just get it exchanged then have a fresh working one. I went to my local 3 store and the man got his nokia phone out tried my sim in his phone it worked on msn, tried his sim in my phone msn didnt work. So now, shall i replace it or look around the internet for more info

Or is there anyway to - go back to v3.0638.0.0.1 from v4.0727.2.2.1
  • never mind i had the phone replaced but left it as factory firmware and everything is fine!
