Virgin media mis-selling ?

I have my broadband / phone line with Virgin and pay my line rental 12 mths in advance to get a discount, I also have my TV package with Sky.
I recently decided to move all my services to the one provider and rang Virgin for a quote as I wanted the free BT sports available with the larger packages ( the packages quoted on the website are not available to existing customers- known in the trade as loyal mugs ! ). When I spoke to the sales rep and explained that I was looking for a good deal, the first thing he asked me was whether I wanted to renew my 12 mth line rental which was about to run out, which I did not wanting to lose out on the discount. He then offered me the VIP discounted TV / Broadband package based on my needs which I accepted.
It was not until I spoke to a Virgin Rep on the website later that I realised that the cheaper packages for new customers includes line rental, which makes them considerably cheaper than what I was offered.
My point is - instead of pushing me into renewing my line rental, should the rep have offered me a package which included line rental, which I believe may have been a better deal. By not offering me both options - was I potentially mis-sold the package?.

You weren't mis-sold anything as far as I can see. Reps are not required to sell you the "best" deal, they are simply required to sell you a subscription.
It's up to yourself alone to choose the "best" deal from the "best" supplier.
Why are you looking at new customer deals when you clearly are not a new customer?0 -

No, not at all. Unless you were lied to, but nothing in your post suggests that to be the case. You were offered a package at £x, and you accepted that offer so you must have been happy with the deal as it stood.
It's also pointless comparing new customer offers with existing customer offers. You mention such near the start of your post so it's not as if this should come as a surprise that new customers get better deals (mostly, not always though).0
