I bought one of these
and had no problem at all with it.
I gave the monitor away because I kept the one I had already.0 -
Just a random thought, but it sounds like at one point your current computer worked fine and is probably just cluttered up with unnecessary files and a slightly conflicted operating system. If you knew someone with a basic understanding of computers, they could get you an SSD for between £40-70 (128-240GB storage), install Windows 7 and your programmes onto it.
Even if the computer did eventually die, you could move that newly bought SSD into any future machine you wanted, or even get a case for it and use it as a very large and fast external drive.
Just my 2 centsIf someone is worth thanking - click on the 'Thanks' button on their response. It's just a nice thing to do :-)
Started debt at 17, stopped by 25 :-D ...I'm in debt again because of property :-/0 -
jbuchanangb, that looks like the optiplex gx620 with a celleron cpu we had at work, but Dells ranges look similar, and no cpu or system models given on the page. Persoanlly x64 on 4Mb, is a bit like x32 with 2mb. My dell supported a max of 4GB
To be fair although twice the price, would rather get the Lemovo laptop from this thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5618114 than my dell spec (which may not be your dell spec?)0 -
I would suggest that you add a regular mechanical hard drive and just have your SSD for the operating system and any applications where the additional access speed would be an advantage. Do not use an SSD for long term data storage.
Why? Because if a regular drive fails, there's still a chance your data can be recovered. When an SSD fails, that data is gone for good.0 -

I have a 2007/8 Dell XPS 420 desktop with 4GB ram, SSD plus a conventional hard drive. It runs Win 10 64 bit. The SSD is just used for the OS and applications as suggested above.
I also have a Dell laptop of a similar vintage with 2 gb ram running 32 bit Win 10
Speed wise there is no comparison. The desktop smokes the laptop in every respect.0 -
Hi OP sorry those 7010's went as a job lot last week to a refurb company for £75 each
One of those would have been great for you too sorry
I don't sell computers as a rule, they were just some spare ones that we didn't really have a use for..0 -
Thanks anyway
Should I look for that model on eBay then do you think?0 -
reinstall Windows7 first.Don't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0

I don't really like advising what computers to buy
I don't usually participate in these types of thread .. It looks like you've got some good advice above (Edit : Not BsoD)
I would definitely advise getting a refurb business machine though and OptiPlex's are great machines.
The 760's and 780's (biscuit tins lol) are a bit tired now so I personally wouldn't bother with anything less than a 7010
Like I say though, don't pay too much heed to that as I see life through Dell tinted glasses as all the corporate gear , servers, LTo devices , switches desktops and laptops iv installed and worked on for the last 17 or so years have been Dell0
