Vodafone Direct Debits

Hi there,
Needs some advice.... I'm with Vodafone and they haven't taken my direct debits for the past 6 months however this morning they have taken the whole lot in one go.
I've spoke to them and they are adamant they wrote to me advising me that this would happen however I've not received any communications.. letter, email or phone call saying this was going to happen. I've spoke to my bank and they've advised me to contact Vodafone.
Am I covered under the direct debit guarantee to get this money back as they've cleaned my out until payday?
Thanks

So you knew they weren't taking the DDs for six months, spent the money and didn't bother asking or informing them this was happening?0

No I didn't spend the money... obviously your no help at all!0

By the explanation you've given you clearly did spend the money or Voda wouldn't have 'cleaned you out', it would have been sitting in your bank acc waiting to be claimed?0 -
If you get the money back via your bank your credit files are likely to to wrecked for the next 6 years. You were either extremely negligent in not noticing payments hadn't gone out or knew it and buried your head in the sand. People pointing out the obvious may be no help with a problem somewhat of your own making.
Your credit files may already have been wrecked (through no fault of your own) since Vodafone didn't take the payments for six months. If so, that much is not down to you and can be sorted out - though likely with Vodafone only by contacting the WRT following the instructions endless posted on their main complaints thread on here.0 -
You've no case to get your money back as you owe it. If you owed X per monthly bill then like others in this thread I don't know why you were "cleaned out".
Perhaps finish your contract and move to a firm who are more competent?0 -
The real question ois "Why didn't Voda take the direct debit payments for 6 months?". Not the first time - see here https://www.theguardian.com/money/2016/apr/16/vodafone-messes-up-direct-debit-issues-late-payment
Check the date they say they told you? How did say they told you (text/email/ post) and what did their communication say - ask for a copy .
They are covered by the Direct Debit Guarantee which reads
"If there are any changes to the amount, date or frequency of your Direct Debit Financial Conduct Authority will notify you 10 working days in advance of your account being debited or as otherwise agreed."0 -

Why didn't you make alternative payments when you noticed they weren't taking the DDs?
I had a similar issue with nPower (for over a year) but I simply made the payments by card instead as I realised they would eventually catch up and I would get a giant bill at some stage.
Maybe you should have had a similar thought and paid your bill each month or 2...====0 -

He would end up with a default if he uses the DD guarantee now, it's not like he doesn't owe the money.====0 -

How come you have only just noticed ?
Shot yourself in the foot by A only just noticing it and B not having the money sitting in your account.0
