Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Name Dropper Combo Breaker
FWIW, I have one of the cheap (Vodafone) Smart First phones, about a year old and unlocked.
I joined up with Plusnet when they were Life Mobile.
To use data, I have to enable 'Roaming', don't ask why, no roaming, no data.
    Move along, nothing to see.

Plusnet have always said it can't guarantee tethering will (or will always) work for every type of handset or with every local network configuration, at all times.

Can i use my plusnet mobile for tethering ?

"Tethering is when you use your phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot and use it to connect other devices to the internet. You'll need to check with your handset's manufacturer to see if you can do that on your phone.
Remember, the data you use while tethering will count towards your data allowance. And if you use all your allowance you'll need to pay for the extra amount you've used on top of your usual plan"

    "Good morning!

While we've set-up our network services to allow tethering in almost all cases, we can't currently offer technical support or further information for that connection facility.

We can't guarantee tethering will (or will always) work for every type of handset or with every local network configuration, at all times, and we won't be able to offer specific guidance with tethering questions. If the connections aren't running smoothly for you, you may wish to look into third-party information and advice.

I hope that's clarifying, and don't hesitate to get in touch if there's anything else we can help you with! "

I believe what they are saying is because there is so many different hand sets out thier with so many different OS they can't guarantee a data connection.

Personally I see that as a get out clause to cover thier butt. All other providers will help you to connect your device to thier services.

Considering I have a Samsung S2, which so far has allowed me to run T-mobile, EE, 3 and Virgin sims , the later three sims all 4g capable, with three of those sims on the EE network structure, wthout a problem, I think the problem is with thier sim software setup.

Looks to me the outside souce company who setup the sims one day got confused and wrote the wrong software onto the sim. Bet it was intern training day

And don't believe that can't happen. I've worked in a high tech industries over the years. You would not believe some of the mess ups I seen done by very highly qualified people who should have known better. .
