Can anyone help because I keep thinking i've a ghost in my house! I can watch Sky throughout the day no problem yet when I've gone to bed and wake the following day the box has switched itself off and I keep waking up to the red light on the box and not the green light. Any ideas?

Yes its called Auto standby.
It can be disabled in the services menu.
If its Sky+ being on standby does not prevent it from recording programmes. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
If you go to Services, Sky+ Setup, you can disable the Auto Standby in there. HTH0

Yep. It is perfectly normal, and is a power saving feature. As said, it can be disabled by (on my Sky + box):
Press "Services"
Go to option 5 "Sky + Setup"
Set "Auto Standby" option to off.
Save settings.
Auto standby is a new feature that was included in the Sky + box's software updates a little while back, so it does catch a lot of people by surprise.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

It is a Sky + box and what a relief it is something as simple as that as I was getting quite freaked out! Thanks for your help!Hindsight is a wonderful thing0

I just wish I knew who the gremlin was that keeps adding things to record in my Sky planner...lol...I wouldn`t mind if they were anything interesting, but they are the most obscure programmes, on channels I never knew existed...I`ve come to the conclusion it must be the dog, cos it certainly isn`t me:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0

I agree that a recent Sky update turned this on by default, because mine suddenly started doing it until I turned it off (it flashes up a message about going to auto-standby when it is about to do it, which is how I figured it wasn't broken).0

Why does it matter if the red light comes on, you should switch it off when not in use anyway especially if it still records stuff anyway, thats just wasting power and money leaving it on all night.0

I was told if you arent using the sky box you should switch it off as it can damage it? We always switch it off overnight regardless of whether something is taping as it still gets taped. This therefore saves power and money.Weight Loss - 102lb0

I was also told by the guy who installed my Sky+ that the hard drive defrags itself when it's been in standby mode for a while.
