Kaspersky is a respectable and reputable company, used by many people and PC-Security enthusiasts. It has too much to loose out on and wont detect malware simply to make it look like it detects alot and your previous AV is crap because it didnt detect it... I strongly doubt any mainstream antivirus company (including Kaspersky) do that intentionally because if this does happen, the company will have too much to loose... really not worth it!

I have been using Kaspersky for a year-and-a-half now and am very happy with it. There are many other good antiviruses in the market, the best thing for you to do is trial them out and see which you prefer... different people have different opinions... try them out and make your own :)... Just because I like it, doesn't mean you will necessarily also like it.

AVs aren't all about detection... there are also additional factors you should take into account...
    >additional features/security layers (such as Behaviour Blockers)
    >resource usage
    >scanning speed
    >support
    >usability
    >GUI (General User Interface... how easy its to use and maybe how pretty it looks)
    >price (some people also take this into account)
I think you will find that the main players at the momment for free anti virus software are still AVG home edition and avast.
That’s because there are very few AVs on the free AV market… only 5 which I can think of.
NOD 32 is highly reputable, comes out very very well in tests and ratings and I think it quite interesting that on Kasperskys site they do not even include a comparison to NODF32 - can't compare methinks. :rotfl:
… and why is Kaspersky obliged to say anything about NOD32 on its site?... what difference does it make if Kaspersky does or doesn't mention NOD or not on its site?

I reckon mcafee Enterpise v8.5 is one of the best, I have encountered several viruses that other virus checkers can detect but cannot remove. Mcafee removes everyone so far.

if you are looking for a free checker then AVG or NOD32 are not bad.
Bug? That's not a bug, that's an undocumented feature.

  • Great deal on Kaspersky antivirus Here. They are offering 25% discount off the regular price plus another 33% off if you buy the 2 year or more licence. One of the best offers I've come across so far. They have the same deal for Kaspersky Internet Security.

I found the opposite to be true. I can also get McAfee Enterprise for free but I changed to AVG. My pc was infected with a genuine virus McAfee couldn't even detect. I now use NOD32 and I've found both AVG and NOD32 run much more smoothly on my PC and seemed better at detection.

Must admit I don't much like McAfee, as we use it at work we allowed to install it on a home PC as well but I find it resource hungry. At the moment I'm running Avast.
It's my problem, it's my problem

And it's my problem if I have no friends

To those of you who changed antivirus because you had malware on it... no AV is 100% effective and they ALL miss out some... just because AV-1 detects a few malicious files which AV-2 missed out, doesn't necessarily mean AV-1 has crap detections.
At the end of the day its still upto you whether you want to switch or not though, I'm not criticizing anyone, but just reminding you of the obvious :)
  • Hey All.

I have read a number of reviews and tried a number of different trial versions of antivirus, and I thought Kaspersky was one of the best. So I bought a 2 year subscription on their website for £36 which i thought wasnt too bad.

Now I have found another cheap offer at amazon.co.uk. Check out these prices:
1 years subscription, single user: £30

    1 years subscription, 3 users: £18

I don't know exactly how the licence works, but if you buy a triple user and only install it on one machine I can't imagine you are breaking the licence... so save yourself £12. Also, if you have more than one machine in the house - this is an absolute deal breaker, surely?!!!

I've not tried the £8 activation codes on ebay, but the sellers I looked at had above 98% positive feedback and buyers said the activation keys worked just fine. I may try to buy one for my laptop and I'll let you know how it works...

Hope this is useful to someone,

    Cocksy!

thanks for pointing that out to me......

2 years of subscription for £36 still isn't that a bad deal, its just that there are better around!
