Yes but you want the least used out of 1,6 and 11 they are used because they don't overlap if you use an empty channel such as 9 then your getting interference from everybody that is on channel 6 and 11.

Yes indeed, that's what i was implying but apparently not terribly clearly! Pretty much all kit will pick from 1,6,11 to find which has the lowest contention, which means they all tend to be highly contended!

You could be sneaky and use channel 13, which impacts only somewhat on channel 11...

    Nothing wrong with using 13.

The 1, 6, 11 thing came from the US who only have 1 - 11 to play with. They had never heard of 13.

Just want to add the obvious, which may not be obvious to some.

Theses analyzers only detect wifi recognised packets.

IF you have other devices that use this frequency they can and possibly will block out the channels, but the channels will look empty to analyzers.

Old microwave ovens which are slightly out of tune can do this. My ex wireless usb mouse now in my cupboard made my wifi life hell. Also some baby monitors, doorbells, and other wireless stuff etc may also use this frequency.

They are devices to check for this but the cheapest i have found is about £180

One thing to bear in mind about channel 13 ... if you're using a device that only complies with US/FCC WiFi implementation then you'll never see channel 13.

I know from experience ... my old work Dell laptop only saw channels 1-11.
