Help Needed - AlmostThere2017

Options
Its been years since ive paid this forum a visit but ive had a productive few years which is great for my credit file.

I need some advice however.

Whilst ive been able to drop around 14 defaults off my credit file only a few remain that drop off my credit file next month.

My questions are:

1. Is it advisable to pay the final 2 defaults that remain on my credit file bear in mind they are nearly 6 years old.

2. I really want to get my credit built up as me and my new partner want to buy a house. We have an adequate deposit put into a Help 2 Buy ISA when the government announced changes last year. We're going to be leaving it so that the government bonus of 25% is added so we stand more of a chance.

3. I understand that we're not going to get a mortgage straight away based on my previous performance however need to build my credit up and need some starting points.

My History:

As a young man (18) i made some mistakes which i didnt think would come back and pinch me in the bum however lesson learnt to spend within my means :) I've matured alot.

Get a credit card and pay off in full by direct debit, none of this use a standing order bolloxeo, will just lead to issues. Try Vanquis, Aqua etc.

How much are the two unpaid defaults worth?

Be very careful around this time. 6 years after a debt was last paid or acknowledged, it becomes statute barred an unenforceable.

However, lenders know this, so shortly before the 6 years is up, they have a habit of selling the debt on to a collection agency to reclaim at least some of it, and then this agency could issue a CCJ to try and chase you for it.

If they do, this CCJ would remain on your file for another 6 years, although if you catch it early enough, I think you can settle without it remaining on your file (I think you have to settle it within 30 days to have the CCJ wiped off - someone else may be able to confirm).

So definitely keep an eye on all three agency files, and keep an eye on your mail, as the 6 year limit approaches.
  • Unpaid debts are worth £238 and £127.

Debt collection agency will have had them 6 years next month... I cant see them bringing enforcement action on them but just curious how it will be recorded once removed as on my Noddle account it has open accounts and closed accounts.

As far as lenders are concerned, they will simply not appear.
