    Obviously, I'd need a co2 detector.
It's not obvious to me - I would much rather see a CO detector.

An older system isn't necessarily inherently unsafe, the regulations tend to gradually change over time.

We have a flue right next to the bathroom window which complied with regulations at the time, but as neighbours are getting boilers replaced over the years, the snorkel is getting longer and longer. The latest one is a 10ft monstrosity which bends every which way to avoid the window and a flue opposite.

You are so quick to attempt to find fault with what other people post on here and make yourself look big that you missed the fact that this point was already mentioned almost 9 hours previously.

How close to the window is it.
The boiler manufacturers instructions will tell you the required distance front the openable windows and this figure will take priority over the gas safety regs.
If it worries you that much and really like the flat can you not change the openable window to a non openable window? Problem would then be solved.

I cannot think of anything worse than sleeping in a room with a closed window! I would be guaranteed to wake up with a headache every morning.

I find internet forums most interesting. They are places where people with absolutely no knowledge on a subject feel they can comment about it with wild abandon as though they are world leading experts.

    Good god.

Admittedly it wouldn't be ideal and not something I'd choose if possible but if it the flue is that close that it's causing a issue then it would be quicker and cheaper to fit a non openable window then it would to move the boiler.

    Good god.

It's worse when questions like this start on the House Buying board. Like this one did.

The OP didn't even say that the vent was under the window in the OP, which was the entire point of the thread.

The idea of removing the main escape route from a habitable room is an interesting one.

No. The reason I missed it was because I couldn't be bothered reading through all of the posts on the thread. I don't have time to read every post everyone puts up.

    Is that even legally allowed?

No, shaun, not allowed :) Replacing one problem with another potential suicidal one.
