Just open a SNAD case and then escalate it if you do not get a pre-paid postage label to return it. As others have said you can not just put a disclaimer that it may be fake. Really the seller should have claimed from whoever they brought it from, rather than selling it on.

If they have other listings that question the authenticity of the items they are selling then it may be worth reporting them as Ebay should remove them as they violate policies. Whether they will remove them is another matter.

    Thanks both

It really isn't worth me trying to find a Molton Brown reseller to confirm its not genuine. I know it isn't genuine, I think she knows it isn't genuine. But its a bottle of body lotion, not a fake Rolex:o

When I asked about feedback, I meant if I decided not to pursue this. I don't want to get her into trouble, but she shouldn't just get away with it.

If I'd wanted cheap body lotion, I'd have bought a bigger bottle from Tesco for £1. I've been puzzled why from time to time there are empty Molton Brown bottles for sale on eBay, as I just recycle mine. Now I know:(

She won't get into any trouble.

If you want to re-educate her, then you should open a case. Open it for SNAD and just state the item delivered isn't the same as the advertised item. Then wait. If she doesn't resolve before day 8 you can ask Ebay to step in. They will rule in your favour. The seller will have to fund the return and if they refuse Ebay will either issue you a tracked return label or let you keep the item and your money.

Do not leave any feedback until you've resolved this to your satisfaction. Do not threaten feedback, don't even mention it. And don't refer to a case in the feedback.

    Would appreciate forum's help please.

I bought a bottle of body lotion described as follows:

    300ml Molton Brown Body Lotion
    Item condition:
    New Other (see details)
"New from a gift set so no box"

    And in the description:
Excellent condition and unused. 300 ml . Fragrance is Black Peppercorn. Got as part of a set of 6 on eBay and not sure if authentic. However I used the body washes and they seemed ok

The contents of the bottle are definitely not Molton Brown Black Peppercorn. I know, because I have some from Molton Brown. The bottle which arrived also has an old style screw cap, rather than the pump dispenser which comes with Molton Brown bottles. I'm sure the original contents have been replaced with a cheap body lotion.

Because seller has said she is 'not sure if authentic', do I have a case for asking for a refund as it is not Molton Brown, or do I just put it down to experience?

    Thanks

Why exactly DID you buy it? Did you actually READ the description?

Any reasonable buyer would have moved onto the next seller with a description like that.

If you are concerned about paying for return postage don't forget that Paypal are currently running a promotion where you can claim return shipping from them.

Because I thought she was saying 'As I didn't buy this myself from Molton Brown, or have it bought for me from Molton Brown, I can't guarantee it is Molton Brown'. Though with hindsight, the fact that she even mentioned the question of authenticity should have set alarm bells ringing.

I've bought from private sellers over many years and only once before had a problem. It was a very old, very discoloured bottle which had curdled and was unusable. I contacted the seller, returned it and received an immediate refund.
