Will Sky chase me for the owed cancellation period?

After weeks of issues with my sky plus box it finally broke completely after 2 yrs. I couldn't watch on catch up or sky go because my sky broadband speed is rubbish. I decided this time I would just cancel because frankly it's too expensive now for me and I can't afford a new box or engineer anyway. The box breaking was the impetus I needed to go back to basic freeview. I'm on disability benefits which have been halved, but that's another story.
I emailed sky on their accessible email for disabled customers and cancelled both tv and broadband. I informed them of the date I switch to a new broadband supplier and will of course pay sky until that date.
But I asked that they cancel my sky TV straight away. Why should I pay for a service I can't get?
Theyve offered me a free engineer but I want to go ahead and cancel.
Do I have a leg to stand on when it comes to the cancellation period? I've cancelled my direct debit and asked them to tell me how much of the final bill is for broadband so I can pay that.

Not really. 2 things come into play, your contract of service and your warranty on the STB. It looks as though your Box was out of warranty, so they are not obliged to give you another. They did offer a free engineer visit, who under the circumstances would have fixed the issue, or if the STB had indeed gone faulty, swap it for one in his van to get you back up.
You notice period remains whether you view or not, and as you're planning to leave them, the only thing you can realistically do is pay it, or borrow/buy a replacement STB to continue watching until your card is de-authorised.0 -
Oh well. It was worth a try. I might tell them I'll pay it but tell them they need to send the engineer anyway to fix the box for the few weeks I have left0
