US one way fees - supplier says yes, TP website says no!

Hi all

I've been going to the US (CA, NV, AZ) for many years. I often rent one way and have never had a one way fee between any of these states.

This seems to have changed, now there appears to be a flat one way fee of $300 for every company per their websites. I'm looking PHX-SFO (Aug 1 to Aug 11).

However, when I try through third party websites (usrentacar etc) no one way fees arise. I emailed dollar to query but they would not confirm over the phone as 'prices may change during the course of email correspondence'!!).

So my best hope appears to be booking through the TP website, emailing them to confirm no one way fees and then trying to argue the piece with them if I am charged a one way fee by the supplier.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this or any advice on the one way fees, or help with finding a non-one way fee rental for my dates?

Thanks

    I don't think you'll get that confirmation.

    That's April

I have found that August has different rules.
  • I hired with Hertz last September from SFO and dropped in Las Vegas with no one way fees. (Booked through their US website)

    Thats the same state.

one way fees apply when changing states.

Its a long time since I have done it but as the Op says it used to be the norm that there was no one way fee between the 3 states mentioned.

I would book with the 3rd party and if the website says no one way fee then the paper work should replicate that, in which case you shouldnt get charged it and if you were to be charged by the hire company then the 3rd party should refund it

:-) I'll admit did miss the August part of the original post.

Although I've just done a dummy booking & it states there is a one way fee included for the dates in August. I'm also getting the same prices for returning the car to the same location.

I mentioned above re your post.

If you are doing a booking between LA and SF they are in the same state so there won't be any one way fees, one way fees only apply between states
