Sky and BT face-off

Today I have had both sky and BT on the phone trying to give me their best prices and thought I would share my experience to my fellow MSE Forum members.
After the recent notification that BT were increasing prices I called them to cancel my TV and Fibre Broadband (infinity 2). This time last year I cancelled with sky too and the offers to get me back have flooded in in the past 12 months.
BT offered me BT Infinity 2 (superfast) with weekend calls, BT TV Entertainment max ( for BT sports, kids and Gold etc.) for £48.49/month for 18 months including the latest BT Smart hub. I agreed to this deal.
By chance Sky rang me today seeing if they could tempt me back.
They offered me Unlimited Fibre Broadband and weekend calls, Sky variety and sports packs for £47.30/month (keeping my old Sky HD box). I did not haggle and told them I agreed the BT deal yesterday but would bear it in mind during the 14 day cooling off period.
What do you knowledgeable people think is the best offer? Do you think sky would move on this price (they didn't give me the breakdown of how they worked it out)? I have been happy with both providers.

You should pay attention to the needs of the moment - otherwise there is no future. But to ignore the future is foolish - living solely for the moment leaves nothing for when the next moment arrives.

It would depend upon what i wanted to watch as to TV/ Sports and also if i would be paying the BT TV sports fee from August 2017 .
14 day cooling off with an upgrade not sure if it applies .0 -

The entertainment max includes the price of BT sport. No price increase in August.
The 14 day cooling off is because effectively they have cancelled my subscription (due to the price rises) and placed a new order with the offer mentioned in my OP.
I have noticed that the discount on the entertainment max is for 12 months not 18 which was not made clear on the phone so I have grounds to cancel if required. I'm still wondering what is best to do?You should pay attention to the needs of the moment - otherwise there is no future. If you want to watch European football and MotoGP, your only choice is BT. However, if it's golf, cricket and live F1, I believe Sky is the only choice.

As for the ashes this winter i think its on BT too0 -
I wouldn't be doing with an 18 month contract with only 12 months discount. Is virgin available in your area?0

Football and rugby are the household's main sports of choice but not avid supporters of any in particular. Just sports fans in general. Getting bt sports free for the past 12 months is my first jaunt into premium sports channels.
18 months with 12 discount is pants I know but wasn't made clear to me on the phone which gives me grounds to cancel if required within 14 days. No virgin in my area unfortunately. You should pay attention to the needs of the moment - otherwise there is no future. It is hard to say because we are not comparing "like with like" here. How does Sky Variety differ from BT TV Entertainment Max? Which of the two would you prefer? Line rental with weekend calls is same for both. As for Infinity 2, is a faster broadband important to you?
If you get the Sky then you will not get cheap access to BT Sports. If you take the BT then you will not have cheap access to Sky Sports channels.
For myself, as a sports fan, I find it better to get Sky Original with sports channels, from Sky; then line rental and broadband, (plus BT Sports) from BT.
At the moment that costs me a total of £53 a month. I have just re-negotiated the Sky deal for another year. My BT contract is up shortly so I will have to re-negotiate that, and I expect it may well be a little more expensive.
As I see it, it all depends on how much value you place on having Sky Sports and/or BT sports, plus BT TV Entertainment versus Sky Original package.0 -
Personally, the last time I had Sky sports, I watched more sport than when I've had BT sport, but I didn't have the full BT sport. You might have a good chance of getting some extras thrown in with one or the other. With my OH I always get anytime calls rather than evening/weekend. I got caught out with an 18 month contract with a 12 month discount before, but fortunately it didn't end up costing me too much. Maybe see if they'll extend it to 18 month - play them off each other.0

Based on people's thoughts here, it sounds like either option is a good deal because they are both at the level of subscription service I am looking for. There are the pros and cons of each as highlighted by everybody's' posts.
Sky have just thrown a 75% off any t.v bundle into my email inbox this morning which may persuade me to go back with them. Approximately works out at £15 for variety and sky sports and is the best deal I've ever been offered. I wonder what trigger point makes them offer certain deals? You should pay attention to the needs of the moment - otherwise there is no future. My sky contracts end in may , I put my feelers out for but but all they could tell me was no sorry we have no knowledge of the above deal . I guess I might have to ring them instead of live chat ? I would need the kids program not even the sport0
