Anyone had any joy reducing their BT contract?

I currently have my phone broadband (infinity1) and mobile with BT which costs me £47.99 a month.

My contract expires on 5th April so I rang retentions and quoted talktalks offer of £32 a month for the same package but the least they would offer was £44.99 a month.

I don't want to transfer to talktalk but just wondering if anyone on here has had any better luck getting their contract reduced.

Surprisingly I was offered infinity 2 and everything else for £42.9 a month but don't need the extra speed and the hassle of re negotiating next year.

Another thing to watch out for with BT is that new customer deals are 12 months. If you do what you are trying to do they usually only offer a 24 month deal. So you pay a tiny bit less but are stuck with them for 2 years.

BT dont really do retention deals. They also lie. If they do offer you something reasonable over the phone make sure you have it recorded

No, I had no luck at all getting them to reduce the price so went with Virgin Media instead. Got a fantastic deal for £15/month for TV, Broadband and Phone all-in. Very pleased with my decision.

I think there are also some good deals on here for Sky broadband (no need to take out TV).

As others have mentioned BT are reluctant to match prices of competitors. Out of curiosity how much are you paying for BT mobile? (your BT mobile contract is separate from your BT landline and broadband contract)

I switched from BT to TalkTalk recently, and after I initiated a switch, I did call BT and they offered me a lower price than they offered previously, but more importantly they still could not beat TalkTalk.

Unfortunately in this day and age, if you want the cheapest deals, you need to be switching or re-negotiating at the end of your minimum contract term.

I pay £5 per month for my mobile with 750mb of data and more than enough free texts and minutes. I do also get access to the BT wi fi hotspots which can be handy.

There is absolutely no way I will ever go with TalkTalk, not only due to the horror stories on this website but also due to some friends personal horrendous experience with them.
  • I just had same experience - they told me to call back when the contract ends. I cannot even drop the package - stuck with it for now unfortunately

I'm at the end of my contract within the next 3 weeks so leaving isn't an issue provided I find the right provider.

So it would appear you are paying £42.99 for line rental and Infinity 1, which seems pricey. Do you have any call plans (e.g. unlimited anytime calls) or calling features enabled? as these may be adding to your monthly cost. You should be able too see the breakdown on your bill.

If you switch provider, and wish to retain a similar call plan or feature, you need to factor in if these are included in the price a new provider provides.
