Astronomical electricity!

He himself has been round and check all the appliances, he has done this himself and the only things that really send it into overdrive is the things you would expect, kettle cooker and boiler. He cannot understand how we are using so many kwh with what appliances we have, he can't understand where the fault is. He has checked our appliances and he also clamped the incoming main wire while he was checking the appliances to be extra sure. He was as astounded as we were when I showed him we use about 40 kwh within 6-7 days. It's like the meters are ticking over 3x the speed that they should be! He has a 3 bedroom house and uses 40 pounds in 5 weeks, that's 1 week to us!. I understand all electric is more expensive and all that however as you can probably tell I am constantly checking my appliances, my meter, my everything and still no joy0

A 9kW boiler is always going to be hideously expensive to run That's why your neighbours have storage heaters.
There is a possibility that someone is stealing your electricity, perhaps by tapping into your mains where there's a party wall. It's rare, but it happens.
It's unlikely to be the wiring. Any fault using that much power would have burnt out by now.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
I know it's expensive but we are able to control it, either by room thermostat, timer, extra hour or whatever it's pretty easy to use next to nothing and if we want heat the walls and ceiling in this flat are jam packed with insulation so it can take up to 6 hours after the rooms up to temp for the heating to come back on!
I'm starting to wonder if someone has been using our supply, the main wire coming into the house from the outside has some dodgy tape on it...
I'm glad it's not the wiring, my landlady just spend 2500 on heating and hot water, she could do without a rewire too!
If someone is stealing my electric would my meter not keep ticking over as if I am running 3 houses in one when I turn everything off? Or is there a way around that? Feels like when I'm using my electric it's running 3x the speed it should be, and when I have nothing on it uses nothing, it's like I'm charging a battery for someone else's house...0 -
Repeating the point I made in post#3 I can't help feeling that you haven't got a problem.38kWh in a(February/March) day for heating, hot water, and general electricity consumption is IMO below average.0

Also no I did not use any form of any heating at all in December and January because it was way way too expensive as it was to run a few light bulbs and the TV! Nearly 100 pounds a month for nothing, but the neighbours below had their storage heaters on so I kind of benefitted from that :-) I didn't calculate my boiler uses 26kwh a day, just that altogether using the heating and everything else I can account for give or take 26 kwh, the other 12 I have no idea.
I will Deffo turn everything off tonight and see if my meter is still chewing up my money like I'm loaded!
Thanks all for your advice
Ok, so how did you arrive at that figure you say you can account for?0 -

The OP has NSHs too, but now seems to have opted to use the electric boiler instead, accepting it is expensive (presumably as it uses electricity that probably costs twice as much per unit as the electricity NSHs would use) ... and now is complaining how expensive it is.
I wonder if the penny has dropped yet with the OP?0
