Vodafone £3.19/pm - cannot be bettered?
Hello all!
I have a pay monthly contract with Vodafone.
It's Anytime 75 minutes + Vodafone Stop The Clock + 100 Texts.
Currently paying £3.19 per month for this - not sure how I managed to get onto this tariff but I received a SE w810i and this tariff approx. 2 years ago.
I called Vodafone the other day about some problem I was having, and the fellow mentioned I had been "due an upgrade" since March. I said I'd need to think about which phone I wanted etc, he said he would call back in a week.
Anyway I decided to call back sooner, and the woman was quite condescending, saying that since I was on a £3.19/pm price plan, I would only be able to get a phone without a camera, and that I wouldn't find such a price plan at any other mobile provider, and that on pay as you go I would be paying about three times as much.
I don't disagree but when the fellow the other day said I was due an upgrade, he didn't mention this.
I asked which phones were available, and after waiting on hold, she told me "only one, Nokia 1112". I've looked this up and it costs about £26-£30 brand new, and sells on eBay for around £10-£20. I would be tied into another 18 month contract.
So I'm just wondering, am I onto a good thing here? Should I just carry on with my current price plan, without tying myself into another contract? The phone I have now is adequate for my needs. I was told that to get a better phone, I would need to be paying around £20 per month. This is excessive for the amount of calls and texts I make (i.e. not a great deal).
Just wondered what other MSE's thought.. cheers.

at the mo it looks like your on a discounted line rental,
their right you wont find anything as good unless you go for a cashback scheme.
if you dont need a new phone leave as is until you do
but check whether if you do just leave it the discount wont expire.Yes Your Dukeiness0 -
maybe if you want a new phone, it's worth just buying a PAYG and putting your SIM card in, and keep the contract as it is0

If the tariff meets your needs and you are happy with your current phone - why change?
The only better deal would be a 100% cashback deal with a new free phone. Just depends whether you are prepared to deal with the hassle when the provider doesn't cough up......I dont know of any providers who dont have horror stories posted on these forums.....

Hi reehsetin,
Thanks for the advice. Yes I thought as much. On further thought I did think, perhaps it is best to take another 18 month contract, then at least I suppose Im on the same cheap tarrif?
Any idea how I check to see if discount won't expire? Contact Vodafone Customer Services?

I'm in the same situation with T-mobile and don't intend to upgrade through them ever again given the deal I get now.The thanks button is here to the right. If you find a post saves you money, gives you useful information, or you agree with it, take a second to thank the poster!

Sorry about the mis information you received. The chances are the advisor who told you you could upgrade wasn't in Sales, and just spotted you were out of contract (especially with you saying he was sorting a problem you had).
On a priceplan like what you have, your upgrade options will be severly limited due to the amount of subsidy you receive on the line rental so if you wanted a better handset, you would need to change the priceplan. Or, if your happy with your current deal (which in all honesty it does sound like a very good deal), you could always buy a Pay As You Talk handset and just put your SIM in it.
