I am looking to reuse my old laptop as a cycling training aid for use in the garage with turbo trainer.
It is really slow, there is nothing on it I need to keep as all photos and docs have already been transferred to new laptop. Apart from that, it's working ok (Im typing this post on it at the moment).
All I would need is access to the internet to get access to the cycling training site.
What is the best way to clean the laptop? I have tried to restore to factory settings but don't think I have done this properly, as there are still some icons on the home page.
I apologise for my incorrect use of technical terms, as you can probably tell I am not very computer savvy!!

Windows 7 (assumed) factory restore should work; updates will take a while. Start with convenience rollup -needs IE- http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/search.aspx?q=kb3125574
(assumes the hard drive is in a good state)If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0 -
Machine from 2008 more likely to have Vista pre-installed.So a Factory Restore would likely install Vista 32 bit. Not good, but better than nothing.
Will likely have just 1GB - 2GB of RAM installed.
Can be updated to Windows 7, but will need to know current BIOS revision installed. To find the current BIOS version on your computer, follow the steps below.
In Windows search for msinfo32.exe, and click msinfo32.exe in the list of results.
In the System Information window under the System Summary category, look for the BIOS Version/Date entry. This is your current BIOS version.
Example:0 -
I have this on the system information...
BIOS Version/Date Hewlett-Packard F.05, 07/12/20070 -

From the sticker on the base of the laptop:

Will have the firmware update ready for you tomorrow. In the meanwhile you can download the installation media, to be found in your PM inbox.0

Make sure laptop is on mains power.
Firmware update is here: http://www.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!/file/27rbui4iefs7/HP%20Compaq%20Presario%20G6000%20F.0A-%28sp52463%29_HP21__WL.zip
Copy and paste the link into your browser's address bar and replace the exclamation marks with filefactory dot com
Hit the Enter key at that point to begin the download.
Once downloaded and saved to the laptop, unzip the package to reveal the HP Compaq Presario G6000 F.0A-(sp52463)_HP21__WL within.
Double click on the folder to reveal it's contents and run the application showmsg1 by right clicking on it and choosing 'Run As Administrator'. Follow the prompts to update the BIOS.0 -

I tried to copy and paste but as soon as I clicked on the link I get 'this site cannot be reached'. I have manually typed it in, but getting 'access blocked'
Is there something I am doing wrong?0
