I really am tempted to paint the front door. Brown looks a bit crap. I'm just worried it stands out in a bad way

I think the brown looks ok on your front door because it matches the window frames and the two wooden pillars in front of the door.

I'm going to paint my front door as a previous occupant painted it (badly) in what I like to call "luftwaffe grey" in an eggshell finish and they've painted over the escutcheon.

Is the door wood, as you can't paint UPVC ?

I would tidy up the felting over the front porch as it is tearing.

As someone has already said, your changes might be liked by some and not by others.

If all the other doors in the street are brown and I bought your house with a green door, I'd be changing it back to brown. On the other hand, someone might like that it's different to all the others.

Change what suits you, you really can't anticipate what a buyer is looking for.

Echo what the previous poster said about waterfall taps too, when we planned to change our bathroom we were advised against these by several people/tradesmen as they won't be looking so great in a few months time with any scale build up and will date very quickly.

Doubt there's much you can do to add any real value to that place - at best (eg a bathroom) you'll either cover your costs, or not get knocked down a corresponding amount because the decor is 'dated', at worst (kitchen, conservatory, loft conversion) you'll lose money.

If it sells for more than anywhere else on that estate, it's due to rising prices, not added value, as it's a pretty standard 3 bed on a modern estate of 2 and 3 beds. If someone wants 4 bedrooms, ensuites and the likes, they probably won't be looking here.

At the end of the day, with this place, if you think you can spend £2k and add £20k, you're going to be disappointed - you're more likely to spend £20k and add £2k...
