Day 16 - Half day Friday is great!!
Thanks for the nice words pozza_73, MSE definitely helps. I will pop over to your diary soon and see how you are doing
Whoknows - I need a few bits for hill walking believe it or not. I would absolutely love a handheld GPS system for the hills, but they are a few hundred quid, which I don't have
Well today I went into my local City and purchased a few bits. I was desperately in need of socks so I managed to get 12 pairs for £8. I also got a nice new pair of trousers in the sale, reduce from £40 to £18. I know it's money I probably don't have, but I suppose I can't go around looking like a tramp. Also, the zip on my jacket burst this morning when putting my jacket on for work so I dropped it off at a local shop for repair - a whole £14 later
I also had a £30 voucher for my local clothes store from Xmas, so in I went and I got a few more bits and bobs, exactly to the value of £30 :rotfl:
So all in all today, I spent about £40. This should be my spends until I need fuel later next week.
Nothing has changed with the bank's as I paid everything with cash which was mine from the joint account (the £140), but I need to take more out so i'll update you on that later.
No mail today. Starting to stress about the mail coming later next week when the Mrs gets half days and will be home before me.. Hopefully it comes Monday or Tuesday when I get home before her.
Anyway, hoping to enjoy my weekend. I hope to take the dog on a long walk and relax with my book.
Enjoy your Hen Doo's everyone

Well done, Hillwalker:T. Sorry I don't get to read or post regularly
but when I do manage to pop in I always have a full catch-up of posts I've missed.
You seem in a good place at the moment:j and I'm with you all the way as you make a success of kicking your problems into submission;)
Something just occurred to me about your anxiety over the expected mail from your bank. Who will the letter be addressed to? I'm presuming it isn't your joint account (I may have misunderstood this:o) and if it's a personal account surely it will be addressed just to you. Your OH doesn't open your personal mail does she?
OH and I have always adhered to never opening each other's post over decades. It's never gone wrong yet and he has remained blissfully unaware of my debt problems even in the bad old days when banks were sending me threatening letters nearly every day:eek:. Bizarrely, our postman being a bit careless, we often get other people's post and a couple of times letters of mine have been misdelivered to the people across the road. They were both opened 'in error' and the guy brought them over very apologetically, obviously having been read. Luckily, they were not finance-related:j
I hope the sun is shining on you and you have a relaxing and inexpensive weekend:beer:0 -
You're doing really well!
Ah I know what you mean on the cost of those kinda things. Decent outdoor g gear can be so expensive.
I go camping and been looking for a new tent that is big but folds up small but if you find them they're either £££ or such poor quality it'll get blown apart in the wind in one place I camp.
Good luck in the mail!0 -
Day 17
The plan was to lie in the garden with the dog and my book, but it's a bit chilly so i'm catching up with the the diary's on MSE for a while. It gives me motivation!!!
Dog walked and is literally lying at my feet, keeping them warm. Although at 35 kg's he is pretty heavy :rotfl:
I popped past the ATM and got the rest of the cash I was due from my wages (they go into joint account and I remove all but £750), so that's extra cash put into my emergency fund. I am now up to £1000 :j
Before any bills come out of bank 1, I have just shy of £1550. I'm hoping this should be no less than £700 come the end of the month. Bank 2 has £150 in it so that can be used for all this months spends.
Today I got the settlement figure for loan 2 - although it's already paid off. When I phoned up to pay it off, they had to do a settlement check to get the figure and supposedly this creates a figure which they have to mail out to you. Anyway, I got this without the Mrs seeing it so that's good. I'm expecting the account closure documents from both loan companies either Monday or Tuesday hopefully.
CBC - When I told the Mrs about my gambling issue about 3 years ago, I was still living at my family place and upon moving in, everything was sort of forgotten about. When I told her in 2015 that I had lost everything due to gambling again, the decision was made that she could open my mail as that's how I was getting credit cards / loan paperwork etc. I suppose it was a sensible decision as she could see what I was up to.
I don't get a lot of mail, but if the Mrs finds it before me she will quite rightly open it. I suppose she is checking on me. About 80% of the time I get the mail so i'm fine. Hopefully I get all the paperwork this week and I can live stress free until the later part of 2017
You certainly don't need to apologize - I know your in the background somewhere, reading or catching up. I appreciate the comments
Whoknows - I would love to win like a £1000 spending spree on outdoor gear as I would have to much stuff to buy. I just love shops like Blacks, Millets etc.
It is my birthday coming in a few weeks so maybe, just maybe, I might get a few bits and bobs. I would love it if I could get vouchers, but I know the Mrs would kill me if I bought the GPS and not 10 less expensive items. Have you looked at Go Outdoors for the tent, I know there were some good but cheap ones in there last time I went.
Time for a cuppa
Enjoy your weekend folks

Looks like you've got it all on track then!
Oh I would love that too. I go to go outdoors a lot but my problem is I need a tent that will fit easily on the back of a motorbike, is lightweight and preferably have a porch big enough to sit in and stay dry... Maybe I'm just too picky!0 -
Well done HW for getting your emergency fund up to £1000.Saving for Christmas 2017 £120/£400 :beer:0

Day 19 and still going strong :j
No update yesterday as the wifi wouldn't work which was strange.
I spent £24 yesterday on fuel as I went to visit some family who live about 40 miles away. It was an expensive trip for a few cups of coffee :rotfl:
Just away to work now, 10am start today
Hoping the weather stays as good as it was over the weekend. It was pretty sunny and I managed to sit in the garden yesterday.
Car tax came out of bank 1 today which as £25. There should be car , phone bill and the 2 loans waiting to come out this month.
Have a good week all

Today marks 22 days
:beer::j
I feel so much better for it. I think back and have wondered why on earth I gambled anyway. yes winning money would have been great, but loosing it just sucked.
I finally got my loan closure paperwork through for the loan which I paid off. I literally got to the mail about 30 seconds before the Mrs walked in the door. it was a very tense moment which I wont forget for a while
Anyway, hopefully I get no more paperwork and my financial situation stays the same for the next few months.
Sorry for the lack of updates everyone. Work has been incredibly busy and I have been late from the office a few days this week. By the time I have been getting home, seeing family and trying to get through my book, there just hasn't been any time.
The Mrs and I went out for a spot of lunch today which was nice. I paid as I thought it was my turn, so I spent about £17, which came out of bank 2. Luckily I have had no other spends so I am doing ok financially.
I cant wait till the weekend so I can relax and sleep :rotfl:
How is everyone else?
