Exceeded my Credit Card Limit

Options
Afternoon, was just wondering if anyone could advise me. I exceeded my card limit with Yorkshire Bank and was only made aware when my statement arrived on Saturday.

I was shocked that they enabled my card to exceed its limit and didn't decline it. I exceeded it by £300 and as I said I cleared this at the first opportunity.

How will this affect my credit file and will it ruin my chances of remortgaging in Novermber?

Any advise would be appreciated.

Many Thanks

It will depend on the rest of your credit history and other details, as to how much impact it has. One trasgression isn't necessarily the end of the world.

Most cards will allow overlimit spend, as not all transactions are real time, and customers have the option of going overlimit or not in an emergency.

Make sure you keep some distance from your limit in future.

Does YB have online banking facilities?

if so, get signed up, and keep track of your balance in real time, don't wait for statements. As for this issue itself? You've went under your limit now? I'd say I would avoid the limit entirely and get some clear light between the limit and your balance. Although not a new application, if they apply a affordability test for your re-mortgage a maxed out card wouldn't be a great sign.

If you keep it as a 1 off it might not be that bad, just don't let it happen again. Put measures in place so it doesn't happen again.
