You made me laugh at your comment about buying a new spirit level. Unbelievable lack of knowledge on his part or he should be a stand up comedian - I cannot decide which!

Winkhaus is fitted on many doors and it comes with a guarantee from the door company. Yours will be under guarantee so get it sorted if it is faulty. However, they are a weak spot, they do fail, and I will be diplomatic here. Frequently they fail because of heavy handed and inconsiderate use. Were this to be the case with yours then a guarantee does not cover this.

To cover all bases say it has been treated with loving care at all times and it has been maintained. I trusty you have been lubricating it to honour due diligence on maintenance - many consumers ignore this. However this should have been explained by your door fitter - did he brief you on this?

Well I am a tiny woman of under 8 stone and I have 2 children, we are the only people using the door, so if it's broken due to our use then the door is in trouble lol as it can't take much :rotfl: Oh and my 72 yr old mother uses it but she struggles to open it at the best of times ha ha
I was advised by the locksmith not to lubricate it as although it works short term, in the long term dust and dirt gets clogged in it and makes it worse x

    Thats OK then.
But we don’t know you or your friend, so you can surely understand why we questioned it given that you are asking for advice here rather than asking your friend. If he is legitimate then I’m sure he will sort it out – mates rates or not I think it’s his responsibility to solve. Hope you get it sorted. I’m after a composite door myself so I’ll be following with interest!.

He has tried the supplier again today and they haven't got back to him, I can see him having to get me a new door at this rate.

Has the door got an equal air gap round it or is it tighter at the lock side .Is the lock keep one piece continuing up the frame or individual keeps

Air gaps look even and the keeps are individual.
  • my guess is keeps are in the wrong position

But would that really affect it only being stuck in the sunshine?

My tuppence worth would be that although the key is locking and unlocking the door normally, you have to turn the key to retract the latch which works ok when the door is cool but as it heats up there is not enough clearance so the door is catching at the latch position. Take the center keep off and see if it opens the next time the sun comes out

Oh also, it has had this problem since the week it was fitted so is nothing to do with handling, it's definitely to do with the sun shining on it x

If you bought the door from soundglobal T/as Sterling PVCu then the comp door will be from Distinction Doors. We've bought about 15 doors from Distiction and they've all been very good.

Your issue will be a fitting issue or a lock keep issue in the heat.

Being realistic you should never have paid for the job - it was clearly not right. If the problem was noticeable so soon it is likely it was noticeable at the moment the job was finished.

Obviously you have to get your fitter to sort out matters but I remain concerned about other issues.

You should have a written guarantee to cover any glazed units in the door, likewise to cover the ironmongery, and likewise to cover the door construction. These could all be on one sheet of paper.

    Do you have these?

When you come to sell your home you will be asked about your door. Did the door and installation get inspected by the Buildings Regulation inspector? If it did why was the problem not found?

The alternative here is to have a FENSA certificate, or similar. Do you have this?

What I am getting at is was your installer deemed competent to install the door? Have you got paperwork to prove this?

It wasn't sunny very much in November, so it wasn't a noticeable issue the minute it was fitted or yes I agree I would no way have paid for it.
No I don't have a certificate, I should know better really, I will ask him for one. Thanks x
Can't ask him today though it's his dads funeral :-(
