Ok, I have a mortgage on my mums house she claim esa and housing benefit. I am 35 have lived away from my mums for 10 years I have never registered anywhere to pay council tax so have never paid it I have moved around friends and partners house. Everything of mine bank, passport, d licence etc is all at my mums address. The issue is I cannot obtain credit as I am not on the voters roll if I join the voters roll at my mums how will this affect her housing benefits and esa payments?? This issue is holding me back I am scared of joking the roll then my mum losing benefits. It seems I am being punished for helping my mum with a roof over her head

You can register on the electoral roll at two addresses, it's only illegal to vote twice
Find a stable address, register and move all your info there, apply for suitable card, Aqua is first choice, Vanquis second , may as well apply for the second if you get the first !!
Register at your "mums" and you run into problems with her paying rent to you....be careful0 -
My mum gets £360 a month housing benefit and I take £150 off her and she keeps the rest so what's the issue with that? Surely I can register. I have capital one card now0

I can't advise on the benefits system sorry, I'm on your side for sure
i believe renting to relatives can cause issues
if you have capital one try Aqua soft search, and Vanquis ?0 -
No im in a position to help her as she has little money so I do. Well I will take £360 then from now on. I am just being a nice son. When we did housing benefit forms we put down I was her son0

Given that it's the Local Authority manage the electoral roll & the Local Authority that issue housing benefit, I'd say it's likely affect it.
And if your mum is claiming housing benefit for the amount of £360 but doesn't actually need to pay that amount, yes that would be fraud. It may seem like you're being considerate but the Local Authority wouldn't see it like that0 -
You say you are 35 years old and are unable to obtain credit.
YOU HAVE A MORTGAGE ON YOUR MUM'S HOUSE.
Please clarify ......0 -
I got the mortgage 15 years ago when i did live their and was on the votors roll. If i put myself on the council tax at my girlfriend will they not ask me why i havent paid council tax for all this time? i do not want a 15 year bill!!!0

Council tax is a property tax. It is paid by whoever occupies the property. Presumably your mother has paid the CT on her house over the past decadeMy mum gets £360 a month housing benefit and I take £150 off her and she keeps the rest so what's the issue with that? ...
The potential issues would be;
(1) What amount has your mother said she was paying in rent in her HB claim?
(2) What amount have you told HMRC you were receiving in rental income?0 -
She has said she pays £88 a week, which is no issue i can take £88 a week off her going forward. I have not told HMRC anything i thought you could get £7500 a year without a issue i also pay a £385 a month mortgage and this is interest only on the property. thank you for your help0
