Invited to bid for flight upgrade.

I'm booked economy on Royal Brunei in 10 days time to Australia and have received an invitation to bid for a business class upgrade (it seems only on the outward flight).

Has anybody had experience of doing this and could suggest what sort of figure RB would be expecting?

What would it cost normally and what is it worth to you?

Exactly as stated above, if you want the upgrade, just put in a bid of what you would be comfortable paying. You never know, it may be that nobody else outs in a bid and you get lucky. There's a decent article about the practice here...

The price difference is huge so even a third of that, as suggested by that article is beyond this MSE-er I'm afraid :-(

Oh well, a cheeky bid can't hurt - they can only reject it.

They don't reject any bids - it's an auction.
Have you read the link provided?

Yes, I just meant it would fail really - a bit like ebay I suppose.

Have a search on the Flyertalk forum. I'd be surprised if there are not already reports on successful bids.

    (Scrub that - I can't find anything!)

A few years back I was offered upgrades by Emirates India to Dubai for £69 and Dubai to Glasgow @ £259. Maybe somewhere around £450 per seat
    may nick it

Can depend on how busy the flight is too. I was offered this on an AirNZ flight and bid the same amount for the flight there and back. Was successful on the flight out, but not on the flight back.
