    Thanks. That's a useful link.
I stand corrected, so the relative at the moment should receive the HB severe disability premium (in addition to the disability premium and enhanced disability premium).
His HB would reduce if the OP claims CA as the OP's benefit calculator indicated.

I have to correct myself too.

Since the OP is not actually in receipt of the Carer's allowance and would only get the Carer's premium then I think the cared for person would still get the SDP in their HB calculation.

Will try and find a link .

Current HB for the person I care for:

Total Income Used In Calculation £313.41 (this is the above figures previously given)

How much the law says you need to live on:

    For you £168.70
Because you are sick or disabled £61.85
(this is obviously the SDP, added to HB which would be lost if Carers Allowance was being paid)

    TOTAL AMOUNT £230.55

    Excess Income:

    Income Used £313.41
Less how much the law says you need to live on £230.55
    Excess Income £82.86

    Your Rent:
Weekly rent eligible for benefit (they don't include the water rates etc.) £98.37

How your HB is worked out:

    Weekly Rent £98.37
Less 65% of Excess Income £53.86

    Weekly Award £ £44.51

I am pretty certain I would only qualify for the Carers Premium of £34.60 given I migrated from Incapacity Benefit, so the ultimate question remains would I gain £34.60 but the person I care for lose the £61.85 in their benefit calculation, thus reducing there HB significantly. The benefit calculator Entitled To only asks about Carers Allowance in payment, not the Carers Premium?

Yes, Carer's Allowance is an overlapping benefit with your contribution based ESA so would not be paid.

The person you care for should not lose their SDP because (taken from the link I previously gave)

Please note: If Carer's Allowance is not actually payable to your carer, for example because the other benefits they receive are affected by the overlapping benefit rules, you can still qualify for the SDP.

However, you do need to apply for the Carer's Allowance (form is quite straightforward) and then get the letter saying why you are not entitled to it (because of the overlapping rule) in order to get the Carer's Premium.

    Go for it!
