Broadband Question

I have a question about broadband/landline contracts

If I were to sign up to a broadband/landline contract, but then had to move house in 6 months time, would I have to cancel the contract and pay off whatever is owed, then sign up to a new one, or could I move the contract from my old place to my new one?

Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, I've just never dealt with this sort of thing before.

Thanks.

You can usually take service with you, but you're often asked to sign up to a new 12 or 18 month deal at the new property.

    Pay up contract yes .
Move penalty free yes if your ISP supplies the new address . This will start a new contract term .
Worth working out if you are better paying off contract to get new customer deals .

Something to consider is that not all providers supply service in every area, so you could move and depending on your current provider , they could say, sorry we cannot provide service at you new address, so ETC's apply, even if you were prepared to use that company at the new address....only BT are obliged to provide service to every address, (unless you live in Hull)
  • I don't currently have broadband at this address and I was thinking about signing up for it here, however most contracts are for atleast 12 months and I might have to move at some point this year. I'm not sure when.

I'm just wondering what my options are?

There are niche providers who offer 'monthly' contracts and only need a short notice to quit ( so no minimum 12/18/24 month term ) but they tend to be a bit more expensive per month than the mainstream company's, but it may suit someone who's not in one place long, alternatively you could go for a mobile broadband deal, but they can be expensive depending on how much data you consume

Pulse 8 being one of them.
  • Thanks. I've been using 3 PAYG Mobile Broadband, but you don't get a lot for your money. I'll look into what you have suggested :)
