Baxi Duotec Combi 24HE Error Code E133

So it's been pretty much over a year... and the intermittent issue has returned!! So occasionally an E133 error code, which disappears if you reset the boiler!! What a pain!0

We also have a Baxi combi boiler and had the same error message coming up repeatedly last winter. It turned out to be a fault with the expansion vessel and a leak which mean water was disturbing the igniting electrode, but the engineer did say there were something like five things which could be causing that error code (can't remember what the rest were, sorry). He replaced the expansion vessel and the pump if I remember correctly.
Our repair was paid for by home emergency cover on our home insurance, do you have anything like that? It's been really worth it with boiler problems (second time with this boiler, different problem) and only £21 per year.0 -

Hi, that's really helpful. I might have something like that. I'll have to find out. Replacing the expansion vessel sounds expensive. Did the error occur only when your central heating came on, or when you tried to run the hot water also?0 -
The other thing I wasn't sure about. Would this error be happening if there was something coming in the flue? Say a big gust of air, or water or something like that? I don't really know the set up of a boiler!!
I also rang my home insurance people, and they can't add the home emergency cover onto my policy. They can only add it at renewal dates!!! Which is slightly frustrating!!0 -

Both, I think, or certainly we didn't have either for a few days while we were waiting for the repair.
Hope you get yours sorted. They can be difficult to diagnose, for our one the first engineer was halfway through checking what might be at fault when the boiler started working again and he couldn't then get it to not work ... second guy had to come back a couple of days later after the problem had reoccurred.0 -
I have the same boiler... and amongst other things, the same problem.
Came home from the pub on Saturday night to find my boiler hosing down my kitchen with some degree of pressure (it had been dripping slowly for a couple of days - lesson learnt). To say it was the quickest I have ever sobered up was an understatement.
Because of what happened I called a boiler guy just to get everything checked out. Leak fixed, happy days - I mentioned to him about the fact I keep losing pressure in the system. I also have E133 flashing up.
He said one of the issues that could be causing the pressure issue is a hole in the rubber diaphragm of the expansion vessel - causing the side to be full of air to fill with water and sending it back up the boiler via the overflow pipe. (The U shaped pipe on the outside wall)
On the top of the vessel is what looks like a bicycle tyre valve. If you undo this and water comes out - you have your answer. He estimated a little under £170ish for a new vessel and a second part (apparently both need to be replaced at the same time) plus fitting costs.
I had a chat with him about boilers in general - he didn’t talk highly of BAXI. He said 9/10 times a leaking boiler call out will be a BAXI. It seems although the boilers work well, the parts inside don’t seem to last very long. Make of that what you will.0 -
Hi!
My parents lost some money on a plumber trying to fix their Chappee initia plus (which is the same as a Baxi duo-tec), that's why I want to put this out here somewhere.
So error 133 kept popping up at random times, but usually during the morning, after the boiler had been off for some time.
Steps taken:
- Electrodes ofcourse
- the blower fan
- Checks of polarity and grounding (by me, which were both bad, 1.5V difference between neutral and ground + swappped polarity), but not the cause of the problem
- finally the gas valve was replaced
At this point the problem had become so bad that we heard the gas valve clicking and clapping repeatedly, again especially during the morning. Before wasting any more money on the plumber(who would replace the pcb, i'm sure), I investigated myself.
The problem was indeed on the PCB, three capacitors near the switch mode power supply had developed high ESR. Replacing these finally fixed the problem, it sucks that this only costs 15 cents, yet so much money was wasted...
This is the pcb in question. The three bad caps that needed replacing are circled in red.
I really hope this helps somebody! Wish I knew three months ago...
Kind regards
Can't post link normally, grrr

Morning,
Duo-tec 40 only fitted a week and have had to reset it 10 times due to this failure code.
Complete failure of boiler last night, local fitter came out and bid the checks and I have to ring Baxi AM to get them to come out and fix.0 -

Why did a local guy come out & not the installer ?
Why isn't the installer phoning them ?
If he/she has registered it through works you would get same or next day serviceI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0
