I don't have any suggestions to make, but what a nice mother you are, wanting to make your DS's GF as welcome as possible by accommodating this little foible.

I bet plenty of mothers would roll their eyes and not do anything

Sounds like the best approach, last thing she will want is for you to make a big deal of it.

A movie and a lap dinner would be a good way of diverting attention away from one another and allow her to eat in peace.
    :D

I'm off to see an optician :o On first glance that read like lap dancer :D which would, I suppose, be an even better diversion lol.

I will see if I can persuade other half to do the lap dancing.

Well she came- she stayed and
she ate. Thank you all for your kind thoughts and encouragement. Took on board lots of your ideas and she coped really well

Lunch-- mixture of bits and bobs- baked pots- pizza- ham - salad- grated cheese etc and all in bowls so that she could help herself. I had made banana bread and she loved it!!!

For tea we had fahitas and all the bits and pieces again all in bowls. We never mentioned food didnt look at her plate ( she is tiny and didnt have much ) and mixed berries for pud and all was fine. So all went well Thanks to you all

And if you feel relieved imagine how delighted she must have been to have been made so welcome and with no fuss about her eating! It sounds as though you did everything right - what a lovely mum
  • Wonderful - only caught this thread tonight, but its really cheered my heart. I just wanted to say how wonderful you are chalky - very considerate, I'm sure she was worried about the day and hopefully your efforts were noticed and she will feel more comfortable in the future. Your son is lucky to have you. Lots of lovely posts too. Well done all!

  • Glad to hear it went well. :) I know I have a thing about eating at other peoples houses. It sounds silly but I don't like it. lol

sounds like a lovely day was had by all - glad it was a success chalky.

now that you know that the bowl method was a success, there isnt much you wont be able to offer food wise, so at least you know your repertoire wont be too restricted. the only change may be the way you plate it up (or not, as the case seems to be). well done you for being so considerate - your son is a very lucky guy, sounds like you'll make a fab mum in law :D (...one day)!

Thanks everyone. DS rang last night and was so pleased that the day went so well and said "love you Mum for all the thoughts " so of course that made it all worthwhile and now we shall all look forward to seeing them again.

  • What a lovely Mum you are- and if your DS and his GF stay together then she is going to be really lucky to have you as a mother in law (I've got a lovely future one myself and it makes relationships even nicer to be in!)
