We're going today, @Floss - not till after lunch though.

There's packing to finish this morning. I had a look at some crochet patterns last night and I'm going to pull some yarn out of the stash so I can make something as we drive. No great ambitions, but there's some snazzy lightweight stuff that I could try turning into a lacy scarf - it's just a remnant so a scarf is ideal, having no fixed dimensions!

Thanks, @liselle, I'm hoping the weather cheers up for tomorrow afternoon! It will be nice to catch up with so many people, but plan a) is apero and canapes out of doors between the ceremony and the meal. We had an email suggesting we bring umbrellas!

    Enjoy the wedding
    Thank you!

We're almost ready to go. @RelievedSheff's photos of a country camping site have reminded me that going away isn't all stress. The family WhatsApp groups are all pinging as people get nearer - it's quite a relief to hear from DS2 and be able to find the bow tie he dropped and feel that I'm not the only one who doesn't cope 100% and in fact it's something I can put right for him. Meanwhile J and L are about to arrive with Auntie and go to a wider-family lunch. Thank goodness for them taking her. With the train strike, she couldn't be sure of getting the train home but between her stress and mine, I think we would about have done for DH!

So I'm reminding myself that once I'm there I will just be busy watching the wedding and talking to people and thank goodness I'm not stressed about making conversation. I'm not always the best at it but there's always something to comment on at a wedding. Then on Monday it's just me and DH again. We have three days in Wales then overnight in Shrewsbury. I'm also counting expenditure as being from the holiday budget which is in a particular account so won't impact everyday spending.

DH has gone to put diesel in the car: it's lovely to see those prices head back down.

I have a couple of card games, my kindle, a book, my phone, two crochet patterns and two balls of yarn from stash. I hope I use some of it! And tomorrow I can challenge not only DH but also A, DS2 and L to Wordle. :) For some reason none of the women play, but they like to see what the puzzles are.

I've also had a text from the lady who used to look after Mum and her house... nice we are still in touch.

Okay, time to get my shoes on. I'll update when I get the chance.

    Have a wonderful time 🙂
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)
  • We are maintaining two worlds at once Cherry and thus we are Very Impressive. Not at all silly.
I shall however do a crossover and mention that progress has been made in the thicket.
The other option re keyboard is of course a cheap plug in keyboard, I used to turn my laptop into a monitor this way and sit very lazily with the keyboard on my lap.

As brief an update as I can manage when I need to be slowing down and getting some sleep.

Journey was uneventful, arrival at the flat was a bit bumpy due to DS2 being upset that the extra sleeping room was a sofa bed (he felt his g/f, as the last to join the party, was being wronged so we texted ahead and said we were willing to take it and by the time we arrived, J and L had claimed it to keep the peace. I think there was a lot of background tension as the wedding was such a big event and as family, there was some claim on us to help with transport; the bride's sister had just started antibiotics but was still having to run round helping, the bride's mum, who is unflappable, was overwhelmed... just one of those events. :D It all cheered up once people started saying 'Oh, we'll get a taxi'.

The venue was amazing, the event was too! The bride had spent two years planning and as a former event planner, she had thought of so many side events from the pizza stand for late nighters, through the live music (great band, most people are still deaf) to the photo booth with whacky costumes (my family went OTT with this) and the ice cream stand during the afternoon.

It was a real 'event of the year'. I confess I would choose something quieter if it were me, but it was right for the couple whose wedding it was.

DH and I went home before ten - not got the stamina! - and another contingent got home about eleven, but J and L, DS2 and his g/f stayed to the end and had a bit of a lie-in to make up for it.

We had to leave our accommodation by eleven today and the others all went home but we weren't due here (air bnb) till late afternoon so we stayed in the city and had a look round. We lived there a long time ago so we visited various places of interest and came across rehearsals for a live music event which was an unexpected treat. A very old pub produced a great lunch, a cathedral cafe did delicious cake and hot drinks and we toured antique shops where we didn't buy anything.

I did, however, get into Primarni then into TK Ma xx so I have a hat (hats never fit me so I was delighted with one that not only fits but suits me and was only £2), underwear (planned spend) and (ahem) two pairs of shoes. As I spent £50 on shoes the other day, a further £65 is a bit of a splash but they fit, I like them and they are roughly what the podiatrist wants me to wear. Then later I found a charity shop with tee shirts (M&S and Indigo) at 50p each, and also got 3 books at £1 each. I don't think I've quite blown my fashion on the ration allowance but it's looking threadbare (like my favourite socks which went into holes today but I'm not buying more unless I see ones I really like).

We finished off with a supermarket trip - just over £40.

I've also had a phone call from the Union rep, whom I'd forgotten to inform that I'm away. I've arranged a meeting with him next week.

We arrived here about 8 this evening, had a quick tea and wandered down to the sea where we met a nice lady who complimented my hair ( :) ) and had a playful cockerpoo puppy. There was a car parked nearby and someone looking out of it who looked from a distance very like my brother, who passed away many years ago. I instinctively smiled and got a smile back! I muttered to DH to look and he agreed the resemblance was strong.

So now I'm tired but not really quite slowed down. I did some crochet on the journey down but it's not looking right so I'm leaving that till daylight and alertness return. I might make a start on one of the new books.
