Today was rather tiring but mostly a lot of fun. DD had asked her future MiL and me to look at wedding dresses, and when we arrived, her bridesmaids were there too. I've known these girls (okay, adults) for years... we had a great day. DD has narrowed the choice down to two dresses... I can't give away details!
I spent £7.70 on lunch then had a mooch round the shops with the others, we had about four hours all told. Later I went to the supermarket for ingredients for tomorrow's meal (£10.12) and bumped into H and her mum - a big surprise as her parents aren't local. We did spend a while chatting so when I got home I was all socialised out, though in a nice way. It's odd how un-used I've become to multiple social contacts even though I get a fair amount of them through work. I was also missing my friend who we lost earlier in the week, and realising how many conversations with her I would have liked to have carried on.
I had a quiet few hours and made progress on the knitting project which is easier at the moment as it's all stocking stitch in one colour. This evening DH (who had been at work all day as IT haven't yet fixed his access issues for home working) completed a job application for a more permanent form of the job he's currently doing. I got some energy back and deep-cleaned the bathroom, including going through the medication to remove everything that's out of date. It makes the house less than 1% tidier but it's useful knowing DH can't inadvertently poison himself with things that have gone off (I doubt he ever checks the dates).
There is a still a long way to go to an orderly house and tomorrow J and L are coming for Sunday lunch which means a hurried removal of DH's office stuff and my junk from the dining room. Not tonight though: we need sleep.
Tonight I'm thankful for time with DD and friends, gorgeous dresses, gingerbread latte and clear blue sky with gold leaves.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Sounds like you had another lovely day. It does feel strange mingling and mixing with people after so long. Although I’m still wary of the virus it’s nice to feel some normality returning.
Enjoy your Sunday lunch today.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)1 -
Sunday lunch was really nice thanks - DH made lamb rogan josh, J and L came round to help us eat it and we all went for a long walk afterwards. It rained but there was a very tall rainbow. J is having second thoughts about the wedding dress she liked, mostly because of the cost of altering it to fit her I think. We had a look at the rooms available for us at the wedding venue and let them know the two we liked best - J and L are covering the cost of accommodation for family so the day can go on as long as people want.
Back to work for me tomorrow but only for one day before two more days off (unless they need cover).
Tonight I'm thankful for time with family, DH getting a lot of pleasure from walking the dog (I think we are inching closer to getting one of our own), fab lunch, lots of progress on the knitting.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

First frost this morning... beautiful clear sunny day. I fetched my thick jumpers down from the loft.
Work has been downbeat again - first a senior manager was complaining that a file wasn't up to date. I did explain we'd thought the person had left the service, and found more up to date stuff for the manager in the electronic files but I do find this particular person totally lacking in understanding about the difficulties of the job. Then we had a smallish incident which meant a lot of paperwork, and worst of all had some sad news about someone else... its just been a very sad week at work and that spills over to outside work.
Even the knitting isn't doing so well today! I dropped some stitches and am nearly done sorting them out.
So what am I thankful for today? Ginger cake, days off, cold weather clothing when I need it.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

DH and I made ourselves go for a run before lunch today - two and a half miles which is around 5K - it seemed so long! To think I could do double that a couple of years ago. It's good to be back in that zone, though, even if very slow about it.
At some point I was replying to a post on this forum and stopped to look something up which lead to me seeing that a local company has vacancies for kitchen staff. That's the first job I've seen that's really appealed as I have relevant experience (and a food hygiene certificate) and I think the company would be an interesting place to work. Now I'm seriously wondering whether or not to investigate further. DH thinks it would be a shame to waste the expertise I have in my current area and I know there would be things there's I'd miss very much and I might regret leaving... but on the other hand demands get ramped up year on year, sometimes month on month and expectations can be unrealistic.
I don't seem to have much to show for the afternoon apart from doing the laundry and making a big pan of mushroom soup. The soup made dinner and a couple of freezer portions as well as more space in the fridge because those were big punnets of mushrooms. I then popped to the shops for soda crystals and biscuits and ended up spending £14.20 on groceries... can I justify that?! I got some of the biscuits, some cheese and some fruit on discount, and stocked up on onions and coffee.
This evening I invited some friends round for the Bake Off final: only one came but we enjoyed ourselves and I have almost finished sewing up DH's jumper as well as my friend having searched through the pattern of the blue jumper and found a way forward that I hadn't spotted. Thank goodness for friends who have insight into all things yarnful!
It's clear and cold tonight and Orion is bright; frost again, I think.
Things I'm thankful for this evening: being so near to finishing DH's jumper which has been around in one form or another for maybe seven years(!), and it's looking as though it fits him. Time with my friend and what could be a solution to the problems besetting the blue jumper! Remembering to put the recycling bin out (:D). Stem ginger biscuits. Starry night sky.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Been awol for a while and just caught up on your diary. Can I make two observations on the job? One is that there’s only a decision to be made when you get an offer. The other is that there are always job opportunities in your current sector, even via an agency, so you’d always have the option to return.I also love all things ginger. A hot ginger cordial works wonders with a cold.Mortgage at 01.01.14 £119,481.83:eek: today £0 Emergency fund £5.5/5.5k & £200/200 cash.:jWeight 24/02/19 14st 7lb now 12st determined to stop defining myself by my mistakes.
