Another day of not much to report! DH is back from his auntie's, and continues to do well on his current meds. He's still getting the symptoms that the blood tests picked up but has been feeling better in that department so it may just be that he's still finding his feet with lifestyle changes.
It's raining. I was out and about for work this afternoon and got a bit wet but not too badly. The fresh air makes my breathing better and it isn't cold, just wet. DS2 has just got in looking saturated: he and his friend went out for a drink or two and chose a couple of pubs on the edge of town, leaving the cars in the first car park and walking a few miles. It's his birthday tomorrow: I'm missing the morning in order to be there for the meal in the evening and 'everyone' is coming. That means the couple who will have just got in from Korea, as well as the rest of us! I do feel sorry for them, their body clocks will be telling them it's five in the morning.
Spending:
Housekeeping £2.99 (20p left of the housekeeping money! It's going into savings).
Medical £3.50
MS:
Left-over 20p into savings.
No decluttering.
Tonight I'm thankful for the prospect of all the family being together tomorrow.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I hope you're cold gets better soon, I had one a few weeks ago. Glad DH is doing well on his meds, hopefully things will settle down without further intervention.
Enjoy the birthday meal tonightI get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0 -
Thanks SA
I have very little voice left but that's just a stage in fighting off the cold. At least I haven't had to buy any medication today.
Work was okay but I slept this afternoon after which I'm still whispering hoarsely but felt able to go out for the birthday meal. I think DS2 had a nice day: he had been out with a friend and somehow came home with an office chair that someone had dumped! It's quite a nice one so he's cleaned it up and installed it and has been happily twizzling in circles! A and H arrived back safely from their holidays but H has to be up early and was feeling rough after the flight so only A came to the meal, regaling us with stories from their travels. J and L came too: J announced that he has finally landed his dream job after years of trying, so we are delighted for him. No starting date yet but he has worked incredibly hard for it. They have also been asked to be godparents to L's baby niece, which they will be great at.
Spending:
e-book 99p
MS:
Identified some sleep-in shifts on the rota that I can do around Christmas.
A colleague is leaving soon which will mean that there are once again shifts to pick up despite two new staff (both of whom are very promising, which is a lift for the rest of us). I've resisted opting for any yet as I need to get back to full health to be reasonably sure I'm not going to overdo it.
Decluttering:
Oh dear, again... none.
I'm thankful for DS2's birthday, the fact we still have him at home and a gathering of the clans tonight.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

My four-day-off patch. I'm hoping to spend Weds/ Thurs/ Fri morning clearing at mum's old house but I won't buy tickets till I see how much the symptoms subside. I've neglected to take annual leave for rest time when I get home so I mustn't overdo it. It's just been a cold but sometimes they hit quite hard. I've also not decided whether to call off meeting with my friends tomorrow: as there's no one else at home today I can tell if talking will make me cough!
Things to do today:
work out my calendar to the New Year and see if I can book leave around some future visits to the house (I have loads to take)
Clear the dining room table, which is Accumulating Sadly
Do more course work
Prep for study tomorrow even if I call it off
Message my friends to give the heads up
Laundry
Cleaning
Wrap a few pressiesI think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I really haven't got far with the list:
work out my calendar to the New Year and see if I can book leave around some future visits to the house (I have loads to take) Synched calendar and diary up to the end of the year but no further.
Clear the dining room table, which is Accumulating Sadly
Do more course work
Prep for study tomorrow even if I call it off
Message my friends to give the heads up done - said I can't go
Laundry done
Cleaning made a small start
Wrap a few pressies
Other than that... DH has handed in his resignation! He looked better than I've seen him for a while. It doesn't take effect till the end of the financial year but at least it's done. I wasn't sure it ever would be...
On the other hand there's a letter from the consultant confirming that they are delaying the start of the new treatment till they know what's behind the new set of problems. We haven't any more blood tests to do since he started the lifestyle tweak but he did some googling and realised there is another possible cause related to not taking some medication he was prescribed a while ago and which he decided wasn't working. Looking it up, though, it doesn't interact with his current medication, takes a while to take effect and is still in date so he's started it again in the hope it will send the blood tests in the right direction. That would enable him to start the longer-term medication for the main problem. (Don't worry, it's not antibiotics or steroids).
I've stayed in all day with no voice but am definitely on the mend. I'm not seeing my friends tomorrow and may not go over to work on the house. DH and I both have some days off at the same time after Boxing Day so we might do a couple of days' work then.
Spending:
None
MS:
Spent some time mending then washing my favourite bag so it can fight on (I will miss it when it gets beyond putting right!)
Soup from fridge for dinner.
Decluttering:
Finished up soup and cream cheese.
Today I'm thankful for DH finally handing in his notice, for him finding another thing he can do to help his health and for my cold improving.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Another quiet day off. I was in danger of losing all muscle tone and turning into a jellyfish from too much sitting round and the weather is mild so I went to the supermarket and on down the High Street just to get some movement and fresh air. I went looking for a Christmas decoration that I'd liked in passing but wasn't so taken with it when I saw it - all goes to show there are benefits to not buying impulsively.
I did see some chocolate that traditionally goes in DH's stocking, and at a bargain price so a little bit of present-buying has been done. I also invested some of my computer time in ordering a couple of presents.
The doctor rang to say the throat swab I had taken a while ago has come back showing an infection so I'm on antibiotics for the next week. I normally manage to avoid them but clearly wasn't doing a comprehensive job on fighting the infection myself. Thank goodness for the NHS.
And I've done some more laundry... the bag I washed yesterday is still soggy: I'd forgotten how long leather takes to dry. Good job I've decided not to go over to work on the house this week. The antibiotics decided me: I've not had these before so I don't want to be alone if they don't agree with me (though there's no reason they shouldn't) and I'm definitely still not symptom-free from the cold (met a couple of people I know while in town and my hoarse voice caused the younger one great hilarity!)
Spending:
Gifts £29.69
Housekeeping £3.26 Housekeeping balance is now £20.24 - see below.
MS:
Some good prices for fruit and veg - saw the grapes I wanted were available in cheap packs at 89p or promoted packs at £2, and compared weight for weight (£2.13 v. £4 a kilo) and got the cheaper ones. Also bought the veg pack for £1 - five or six carrots, a swede, a parsnip and a small onion. Bought separately the swede alone was 80p.
Wombled 28p - into savings.
The £2 coins are definitely coming out of pre-Christmas hiding: three of them today! That's taking my general spending money down by £2 and my housekeeping down by £4 so I can't go mad.
10th coin into savings :20p
Decluttering:
Finished the butternut squash from the freezer (it had been there too long and stopped tasting good).
Finished a bag of sausages from the freezer.
Threw out two fridge things that were beyond safe use!
Today I'm thankful for free at the point of use medical care and an attentive doctor, and I'm thankful for DH looking healthier again and DS2 having a day off, so I had company today, and DS2 having an ear for music so the piano has had exercise this evening while he sang along. I've no idea what the words were (:rotfl:) but it sounds nice.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Definitely thankful for the NHS.
I hope the antibiotics kick in quickly and you're well on the road to recovery. I think not going over to work on the house was the right decision.
Take care

Thank you everyone! A hundred pages - wow! I really do waffle on.
Today has been largely spent asleep. The antibiotics have side effects so I woke up feeling rough, checked the patient information leaflet, rang the doctor and am now off them. Another is being prescribed but I'm not starting those till I feel okay. I think it may have been the double whammy of being tired from fighting the cold plus a bad reaction.
Anyway, nothing spent todayThe last hour or so I've felt better and even donned some wellies to go and throw a dehydrated bulb of garlic in the compost. That little bit of fresh air helped a lot.
Tomorrow will be partly about getting back to normal: light exercise, good food, rest. I'm very glad I decided against going away to work on Mum's house.
The thankfulness list: a sofa in front of the TV and a comfy bed, DH making dinner and me feeling well enough to eat after feeling nauseous earlier.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
