Hi
I have unlocked a Nokia mobile before to use on a different network.
I am off to Australia for a couple of years however and am not sure whether unlocking a mobile phone means it can be used with international SIM cards.
Does unlocking mean it can be used on any network, anywhere in the world?
If so does anyone know where I can get unlocking codes for a Samsung A800 and a Samsung E710.
Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks

Theres certain rules......
For some countries you have to have a tri-band phone, that means it works on any network worldwide. Unlocking does create you to use any sim card you want, but I suggest you get yourself a tri band phone, as dual band and single band phones may not work.Kind Regards

try this for the e710
1 Put in your simcard and switch on
2 Unlock with *2767*688 followed by your imei
3 After the reboot try *0141# then GREEN Button
4 *#06# to show your imei nr.
Hope this works it did for me! If you dont do point 3 before you turn your phone off it will go back to original state! Not unlocked any networks
try this for the a800
*2767*637#
this only works for the earlier ones but no harm in trying
not sure what bands australia use so check before you go0 -
Dual Band is fine for Australia, if you arrive in Sydney best place to buy cheap Australian Pay As You Go sim cards is from one of the many mobile phone shops beside Paddy's Market or in China Town, they will advise you which network has best rates to UK, you can also buy really cheap phone cards there for use in call boxes or from residential landlines. You will only need a tri band phone if visiting USA or Quad band phone if visiting Japan. Good Luck, got room in your suitcase for me!0

"Quad band phone if visiting Japan"
Should point out Japan (and South Korea) don't use GSM, they use their own technology. Therefore a Quad band GSM phone won't work in those two countries. You would have to get a new Japan / South Korea only phone to work there.
Samsung A800 is a dual band GSM 900/1800 phone, therefore would work in most of Australia (where there is a significant population). Samsung E710 is the same.
BTW Australia also have CDMA in certain parts of the country."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -
Having travelled all over NSW, Queensland, ACT , Victoria and South Australia with a dual band Nokia 900/1800 GSM band phone had great reception throughout. As for quad band I can only say that a friend who is in merchant navy was sold a Motorola quad band by CPW who told him it would work there so cannot confirm personal use of this phone as he usually uses ships satellite phone, but can assure you dual band works all over Australia. It was only prior to the 2000 Olympics that Australia upgraded from single band 900 gsm, I lived in Sydney at the that time and most of my family are still there.0

Having followed Drahcir's instructions, they worked fine for the Samsung A800 but not for the Samsung E710.
Does anyone else have any ideas?!
