£117 pounds! Is he buying fish or trading shares in Birds Eye?
Obviously not a cheap-skate.I don't like morning people. Or mornings. Or people.0 -
Come on you guys, I think that we need to stop carp-ing about this.0

Well that went whale.
It's possible, of course, that the guy In the van didn't sell inedible fish on porpoise.
It's gone a bit far now, perhaps we should all scale it back. Mind, if anyone has any really good ones, do let minnow.0 -

I agree.In fact I have found this whole thread .......Brill.0 -
Getting serious, there is a scam whereby a van with some bedding company name on the side goes door-knocking offering mattresses from "a show home" that "the gaffer has told me to get rid of"
(However if you offer to take one for nothing, to save him going to the tip, where he would have to pay, he doesn't like it and accuses you of taking the mickey)
It turns out that these new matresses are the old ones that are taken away, recovered, complete with worn springs, bed bugs and wee!!!
I kid you not, it is amazing how hard people will work to get money dishonestly, so there is every possibility that the fish comes from someone paid to dispose of unsaleable stock, selling it on.
There is often a "fish van" door knocking here, I never fall for it, why on Earth would someone drive about as far from the coast as you can get to sell fresh fish caught this morning door to door on a housing estate???I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

I'd write to my MP about it, (Chris Grayling), but it's too con-tench-ous.0 -

Indeed, a while back there was a spate of organised burglaries in the area where I was living at that time. Eventually they were caught.
They had a Transit type van sign written as a tv aerial fitting company. Of course they had ladders on the roof rack.
People who were passing by thought nothing of it, they assumed the guys were were there to fit aerials to the houses.
But they were actually entering the houses and cleaning them out - by going in through upper unlocked windows.0 -

You mean open windows...... People never admit to being stupid and leaving windows wide open.
Unlocked windows would still require access to the inside of the property, due to the way most window locks/handles operate.
Most of these locks are also pickable with a screwdriver, the rest open with a bobby pin + screwdriver.
In fact the locks are almost pointless for everything except stopping kids climbing out and killing themselves.
There is a disgraceful little secret that the door/window industry has been hiding from the public for many decades and was censored from public view for many years on forums just like this, ultimately allowing criminals to keep doing it without anyone knowing there was an issue with their home security.
Bascially if I were breaking into a house, I would not be climbing up to windows, i'd go in through the eurolock, wood screw into the lock and pull hard with a claw hammer, 10 seconds your in.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

This has been quite a laugh for most of you on this Thread, hasn't it? Well, let me tell you, this is so funny that the effects of eating fish from another van, put one of my neighbours in ICU. Still laughing?
2 years ago, a white Peugeot van reg No. LY 02 EZF, called to our Sheltered Housing complex and sold fish to a housebound lady in her late sixties. Before becoming seriously ill, she asked my help and I involved the police. The driver and his mate were from the Newcastle area and as far as we knew, action was taken against them.

Fast forward 2 years to last month, and the same two scumbags called again. Same van, same driver, a large, burly guy who stays in the van. His mate, a fat bloke in a white coat and black hat, was doorknocking. I went out to stop them, but a new neighbour had already been sold some fish. Everyone else had been warned about them from the first incident, when he took a lot of money from the lady who became ill. This time I took all the details, informed the police and received an Incident Number. I also asked why these people had so obviously not been apprehended and punished for what was plainly a Public Health issue. I told the van men in our incident, that I knew what they were doing and had called the police. They were off like a shot.
Things to watch out for when any of these numerous scams come around your neighbourhood:
* There is no refrigeration in the van(s). Look for the fridge plant in or on the van, if it isn't there, this is not fresh fish. The scam involves raiding supermarket bins and extracting time-expired fish from the bin, freezing it overnight and taking it around packed in ice, next day.
* A sign like "Fresh Fish" (or similar) which was painted on the side of the van we saw.
* A mobile number: call it, it either does not exist, or will take you to an innocent party.
* Challenge them: 'Why is it not refrigerated' - 'Just wait while I ring the police/Trading standards.'
Anyone who still thinks this is a funny scenario, has a warped SOH.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.
