Birthday Party For Four Year Old Girl

13»

Comments

  • It's my Goddaughter's birthday party on Sunday and I've been invited. The majority of attendees will be other three to four year old girls and their Mothers.

Would it be weird for a childless adult male to attend?

I think I would be asking myself "Why do I want to go?"
The kid won't care if you're there.
The other kids won't care if you're there.
And if you don't want to join in, why bother going at all?

Call in, say hello, drop off a pressie or something and then leave is what I'd do in your position.

My brother used to come to my daughters parties alone and loved them. No one thought anything of it. It's family. And being a godparent is as good as family anyway. Go and enjoy and then sleep when you get home as you will need it

It's rare that godparents follow through the religious aspect of the role these days so being a family friend takes it's place, you're like an honorary uncle.

Gifts are good but helping out will really be appreciated. Children's parties are hard work. You haven't said where the party will be but the parents will need help with food, games, clearing up etc.

I'd be surprised if the party is 100% female but even if it is I'm sure you'll cope.

    - some of the children may be boys. Yes!! Sometimes children know other children and invite them to their parties.
    - some of the parents may be Dads. It happens!!
Totally agree. Most parties I took my kids to at that age were mixed sex and I would say about 1/3 present were dad, to start with, separated dad who had their children that week-end. Female and male talked together. Some dads were actually more involved than mums and loved it.

Going, even if you are not that keen, shows a commitment to building a relationship with your god daughter. She'll know you are there even if by the nature of the party you don't spend any one to one time with her.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
