You are her godfather and have been invited so its absolutely not weird. Go along and also help if you can. I always found small kids birthday parties really stressful so the adults will be pleased to have extra help too.

Devil's advocate answer: Yes. If it was me I would turn up early, bring cake and a present, then make excuses before the horde arrives.

For bonus points, find Dad and smuggle him out to the nearest pub when the mums start arriving.

There is nothing weird about turning up but hanging around for the duration and throwing yourself into the festivities would, I suggest, be pushing the boundaries. Unless you are willing to dress as a magician or a clown.

Whoa, some assumptions being made here.

    - some of the children may be boys. Yes!! Sometimes children know other children and invite them to their parties.
    - some of the parents may be Dads. It happens!!

Just as a precaution (and anyone who works with children will be aware of this), don't get yourself into a situation where you are alone with a child (of either sex). And beware of hugs - when a small child hugs a guy, their face is pressed up against - well, you know what I'm saying. Get down to their level so they can hug round your neck.

Have fun. Four year olds are great.

I would have thought that enduring children's parties was all part and parcel of a god parents duties?
Anyway the food is always great at kids parties - cake, tiny sandwiches, things on sticks.

Prepare to be popular if you're one of the only men there. Really getting into the party will get you bonus points - a tutu should do the trick nicely!

No, I'm a single childless male attending my nieces 3rd birthday party Sunday.

What a strange thing to say!

I've been told it's not so much the hug that's a problem, it's the way they hurl themselves - think three stone of child and a headbut into the aforementioned area...
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

Are you saying yes because it's weird or yes because you wouldn't want to stay too long?

I can guarantee I will not be throwing myself into the festivities.
