They would give an idea - but a dentist would want something more up-to-date before giving a proper opinion.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

I am certain that my NHS Dentist has a more up-to-date X-Ray - I asked yesterday but they were not forthcoming.

Another reason why I am not keen to go back to them once the RCT is over. My private dentist sent an up to date X-Ray to the £950 RCT guys - not sure what the etiquette is if I'm jumping ship?

Just ask the private dentist to send it on - it's only a question of forwarding an email.

Worst case the new dentist takes another x-ray. Not ideal, but supposedly the harmful effects of one x-ray are no worse than the exposure you suffer on taking a flight.

(I had the x-ray from my old dentist forwarded and the specialist redid it because it hadn't shown the total area he wanted to see.)

X rays can only be sent by e mail if the dentist has digital x rays. Films can't be copied easily so the original have to be sent.

One pa dental x Ray is the equivalent of eating 3 Brazil nuts . Four rays is the equivalent of a one Way flight to Spain. However a dentist has to justify any x Ray as there is still a risk, even if it's a tiny one.
