Root Canal Treatment around London

I saw a specialist endodentist in Harpenden a couple of months ago. Standard price for a root canal was a lot less than you've quoted. If Harpenden is doable from you (Thameslink?) message me and I will dig out his number.[/QUOTE
This is probably why you paid less as different teeth have more roots so would cost more to do a RCT.

Good point.
The website in Harpenden does actually quote upper molars as costing 'from £645'.
I will try and find out the fee structure including consultation, investigation and complications :-) My NHS dentist suggested there might be 4 roots but my private dentist said no.

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

Root treatment should be done over a couple of visits if the canals are badly infected . There is also a chance of problems during and after treatment. Problems that may be more than a little inconvenient if you have to travel to Bulgaria to get them sorted.0 -

UR7 was the tooth. So a big fat one, at the top, far back, in non technical terms.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. The OP needs a couple of crowns, too. So, take a ten day holiday to Bulgaria and get the dental work done at the same time. It works financially if you're getting significant work done.
My concern would be with finding a really good dentist there, with modern equipment. You don't want a bigger dose of x rays than necessary, for example. I don't think that the methods of root canal treatment have changed much in the last fifty years, but that may just be my ignorance showing. No reliance should be placed on the above! Changes in root treatment in my lifetime
Use of apex locators
Use of digital x rays
Use of operating microscope
Use of rotary niti systems
Use of new materials e.g. Mdta to save teeth that would have been extracted before
Better understanding of the shape and complexity of root canals
Ceasing using materials such as spad which can cause problems with nerves underneath teeth and silver points
A leap in the success rates for root treated teeth and and a leap in the number of teeth root treatment is attempted in
Use of ultrasonics to irrigate
Use of agents such as edta to dissolve obstructions
Change in use of irrigants
Use of thermal compaction , vertical condensation
Etc etc etc
In for the other point , the more treatment you need, the more you need a long term dentist who will help you change your habits and lifestyle , and also will pick up the pieces when things go wrong or blow up , as they will when anyone needs a lot of treatment. No one wants a long delay for treatment when they have an abscess , let alone a plane ride to Bulgaria!0 -
Don't think I would take a risk on dental treatment abroad - plus not sure where I would get the time at short notice, the infection is being held at bay by antibiotics six months ago.
Harpenden is £645 PLUS £100 for a temporary crown PLUS £65 consultation. Again not sure I have the time to organise as the other place has the X-Rays and appointment is booked.
Will ponder today!

I wasn't charged a separate consultation fee and my usual dentist sent over the x-rays.
Still cheaper than the £950 you've been quoted.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Thanks SC.
Actually, I just picked up some X-Rays from my NHS dentist - 3 years old but I guess the roots haven't moved ;-)
Trouble is I'm trying to fit it in before I go away in 10 days and before the antibiotics are due to wear off.
