Root Canal Treatment around London

Hi all,

My NHS dentist has referred me to a private clinic for an NHS extraction or alternatively a £100 consultation for £900 RCT and then a £500 crown if indeed the tooth can be saved.

Apparently there is a possibility that the root goes up into the sinus. I have had one course of antibiotics for it back in October 2016.

It's UL6 (UL7 next to the wisdom is missing).

Would prefer to try and save it rather than face implants/dentures.

Any money saving tips to find somewhere at reasonable cost ;-) I'm in NW London but can travel - I tried Compare My Smile for example but they don't ring back.

Many thanks!

  • Hi there, for root canal treatment you should check the review of the dentist and ask your friends or relatives.

    £900 for RCT?
I paid for mine treatment around £50 back in 2015.
    BTW I leave near Barnsley.

That will be for a RT done on the NHS by a non specialist.it's a set price.

The price OP has been quoted will be for a private specialist endodontist and in london.

Thanks, yes, a second opinion has confirmed that I need a specialist not a general dentist and that's about the right price in London :-(

OK booked for 23rd March at £950, hopefully it will be successful and the infection won't flare up before then.

Next step is that the tooth will need a crown (the tooth below it also needs a crown, having fractured). These are £900 each via my private dentist or £500 via my NHS/private dentist.

My NHS dentist seems keen to earn as much money by stealth as she can. Three surprise side-fillings at my check-up before Christmas promptly fell out a few days later as did their replacements. I don't necessarily trust her to do a crown.

My private dentist gives good advice and charges accordingly but I baulked at a £400 quote for extraction three years ago (the tooth virtually fell out during a subsequent NHS check-up).

Such is the state of dental care in the UK, I guess...yer pays yer money :-)

I hope you will be great!
You need a really GOOD experienced specialist!
I am a foreigner and do not have friends here to ask somebody about RCT experience.
I had RCT in December. Got an infection and took antibiotics (very strong antibiotics). But the infection never was healed. So my tooth was extracted 1,5 month ago :(:(:(
I still have pain! Went to my dentist, but she said me, that I am ok. But I think something is wrong there.
So...please, be careful with this procedure!
    Good luck!!!

Sorry to hear that Cortney! :-(

Yes, he's a specialist endodontist, a general dentist will not do a good job in this case.

    Kind Regards

I saw a specialist endodentist in Harpenden a couple of months ago. Standard price for a root canal was a lot less than you've quoted. If Harpenden is doable from you (Thameslink?) message me and I will dig out his number.
