O/S Daily Wednesday 1st March

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning Daily-ers :D

Well the upside down shake-a-thon has cured both my D and E keys at last. Both are now debris free and working at the touch of a finger rather than a hammer type bang:p.

Thanks for the tips, what a resourceful bunch you all are :)

Just having my first cuppa of the day and contemplating what lies ahead. Yesterday, after deliberating long and hard I sent an email to my (sort of) work supervisor regarding my concerns about my current work hours. I suggested a solution and got a reply to say we will discuss it today.

I have been very unhappy about the situation and finally felt I needed to do something about it as it is having a negative impact on my life unnecessarily. So we shall see...I'm not that hopeful of an outcome in my favour but I do have my fingers firmly crossed.

Nothing else of note to say other than another poor nights sleep and this cold virus thingy that is clinging on for dear life and offering up differing symptoms daily...how resourceful of it eh! :p

Nearly forgot, I might have accidentally done a bit of online shopping yesterday :o. The more I read O/S the more recipes I am trying and tasting so I felt some weighing scales were required..both types!!!

One for the kitchen for weighing food quantities and one for the bathroom for weighing me as all this O/S cooking is causing noticeable weight gain :o

O/S is all very well for it's thrift and savings but no good for my waist line no matter how healthy the recipes are :rotfl:

On that note I shall wish you all a good day.
    Take care :)

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Thank you karcher for starting us off. Hope your meeting is positive for you x

I was up several times in the night again due to stressing about today and also the tail end of the cold that just keeps giving . My boiler should be fitted today but I am still panicking about having workmen in the house. I know this is unreasonable as all the tradesmen that have been here before have all been very professional and most of them have been very nice but I am still freaking out. I will be hiding away as much as I can.

I don't know what I will make for tea as most of my kitchen is packed away in boxes. I will pull some chicken breasts out anyway and hopefully will make a curry tonight. I made southern fried chicken and ribs last night from lidl. It was absolutely delicious and there were lots of clean plates :).

I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Morning :hello:

The pain in my shoulder is finally easing. I haven't been able to lie down, the slightest bit of pressure was too painful so I've been trying to sleep upright on the sofa. Two nights ago I thought I'd been stabbed in my sleep or something, lol. The pain woke me instantly and I couldn't do anything about it, I was pacing around for about an hour while changing the position of my arm slightly every few minutes, hoping for relief but none came. I blasted the area with hot water in the shower and it felt a bit better. I'm still taking painkillers but not as often, and I can manage to lift a cup of tea now without my arm trembling, lol.

It's been grey and rainy here for a few days, we haven't been out much and when we have, I spend the walk hoping we don't see anything that'll cause a reaction. I really don't want any surprise lunging at the moment, I don't think my body can take it :D

I've been feeling really cold lately, I think it's just from lack of sleep and lack of exercise, hopefully it won't last long too long. I've never been a great sleeper, but this is just ridiculous. I have too much time to think and I've ended up feeling negative about things. So I looked around yesterday for the good stuff –

Morning all and thank you for starting us off karcher.

I'm up, have been for a while, about to have some toast and head out. This week has been such a slog but at least it is now March so looking forward to spring, the season I most enjoy. Also, today is the end of the working week for me, as it is my shorter week so I'm pleased about that I do have things to do on my days off but they are my own things iyswim.

Washing almost ready to come out of the machine, that is my job for the day and I did a load of towels last night.

Pancakes were a success last night, surprisingly even the first one which I usually find is a cr*p crepe. So OHand DS had a piggy feast. The bread that DS made in the breadmaking was very nicely done, good crust and a nicely textured crumb. Sadly, as well as seeds he added a lot of pesto, and that spoilt it for me but as an exercise in breadmaking, it was a success. Still half a loaf left. Rather than the sausages and lakes that I planned, I felt that a pasta dish would be better with the bread so made spaghetti with a tomato onion garlic and chilli sauce and chopped sausages for them and I had a bit of spaghetti with some grated cheese. Theirs went down well so will probably make that again.

I must go and earn our living. Hope everyone has a good day and that your house stuff goes smoothly Dumpling.

    Morning everyone

karcher - thanks for starting us off, hope your work meeting proves fruitful x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light here, damp underfoot and much cooler.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Dinner last night ended up as jacket potatoes, cheese, beans, hot quiche, scotch eggs, salad and pasta salad/coleslaw etc - managed to get it organised and ready to serve not too long after the hairdresser had left so we weren't eating too late. Tonight will be the beef casserole, mash and veg that we should have had last night.

Yesterday work was again manic in the morning, had 3 really long enquiries to deal with but hope I managed to assist those customers in the best possible way and with as much empathy and understanding as possible, all 3 younger than me, all have lost either husband/wife/baby - soon makes you realise how lucky you are!

Work again today for me, with extra hours this afternoon, so a full day working. I think I said previously about our restructure and hours being cut etc, this is all due to be started from 1 April, we've all said we're not sure how it will work, not enough staff, we don't really have enough staff now, yesterday we all received an email offering 2 x 3 hours on set days on a temp basis and some other temp staff until the end of May to assist us at our busy time - you can't write this stuff!

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

Cold but dry this morning. After yesterday morning's rain it turned into a lovely afternoon and evening, the sun was shining although still quite chilly.

Went for new windscreen wipers after work, gosh it's good to be able to see again. Only thing was it showed all the dirt on the inside so cleaned all the car windows inside and gave it a good hoover out. I was frozen by the time I had finished but it was still light enough at 6pm.

I'm excited for your hens tru, hope the shoulder recovers soon.
Good luck today dumpling - just think of all that hot water and heating at the end of it!

Hope all's well in your worlds, have a good Wednesday. Take care. XX

    Good morning.

It's lovely to wake up to light again. Makes me feel so much better.

This morning is just a two hour teaching session followed by a little shopping.

Dumpling - I hope that all goes well today.

    Now, must get myself ready.

    Happy Wednesday everyone.
  • Morning folks and thanks for the start KARCHER. Here's hoping for a positive outcome to your discussion with your supervisor. TRU poor you, I hope the pain in your shoulder soon eases off for you. It's rotten trying to sleep sat up.

Well for me I had a good night's sleep! I woke at 3 for a loo trip and amazingly got back to sleep again. The next thing I knew I was woken up with a sneezing fit at 6.00!

After my day of slothfulness yesterday a busy day is in store. The Thursday shop is being brought forward to today. I also need to detour down to Home B's for one or two bits as well. I am hoping they will have some of their tinned cherry tomatoes in stock as I have just used the last tin from my store cupboard.

Youngest DGD to collect from school at 3.15 and bring here. Middle DGD to pick up after an after school thing at 4.30 and whizz over to her tap and ballet class. Mr TA doing the honours and he will wait for her finishing at 6.00. I'll feed youngest and take her on to Rainbows for 5.30 and then feed middle one when she gets back at 6.15. Mr TA will go back for youngest and I shall start making myself presentable for my 1st Wed of the month ladies wine and carvery night! Hope the wine is ready and waiting, I shall be ready for a big glass!

Not given a thought to today's meals but tea will need to be something quick I can feed to Mr TA and the two girls as they arrive at staggered times. Maybe jacket potatoes with beans and cheese might be an idea. I can leave the spuds in the oven on low.

Have a good day and (HUGS) as always for the poorlies, worried and sad. DUMPLING I hope today isn't too stressful for you. Take care one and all x

    Morning all,

Little bit overcast here and meant to be raining all afternoon.

I have the day off today as finally after 4.5 months I am going to collect my new car to say I am excited is an understatement :j:j:j
We have to leave here at 8.30 so got an hour yet to get myself organised, OH is driving me there and will follow me home, once back and one we have had (another) good look over it we are going for a ride out and to have lunch out (mainly so that I can have a good drive :D)

Not sure about dinner tonight I will go and look in the freezer after this, there is plenty in there to choose from.

Tru I hope the girls enjoy their freedom !
