I had a carpet fitted with flowers all going one way and it was that way in the sample book, they knew it was for my stairs as they did all the measuring before hand, they came and laid it on my stairs and they have laid it with all the flowers coming down instead of upwards, Nobody told that I would not get the right way I,m gutted. I have phone the shop and got no joy, he just keeps saying that the sample was put in the sample book wrong way, someone in the shop should have told me What can I do

Can you post a picture? Are they really the wrong way around or is it a matter of preference? If the latter, the absence of an instruction from you as to orientation is likely to be the sticking point. Were you not present when it was fitted? How did they gain access to fit it?
At least they'll be the right way around as you view them coming downstairs!0 -
I'm not 100% sure but I think carpet (pile) is made to run in a certain direction? I would check with the manufacturer if I were you.0

Yes it is wrong way round its all to do with the grain of the carpet so if the grain is going the opposite way to the flowers then you got flowers running down instead of up on your stairs. I.m not happy because if they knew that I would not get the flowers running upwards like shown in their sample book then in my eyes they should have told me so or had a sign stating it, also not matched my steps up the manager as offered to change 2 steps and told me that's the end of the matter in a very arsie tone. the manager and the fitters said that it was a manufacturers fault and then he said that the sample was put in the sample book the wrong way all in all doing his best to fob me off. at one point he said that the carpet was not suitable for the stairs' my reply was why didn't you tell me then, Then he backed tracked on himself.0

Yes I was in the house but I just thought that everyone knows flowers go up so that's the way it would be laid, and yes when I walk down my stairs it is the right way LOL. I will post some picture so you can see0

I don't think the nap is likely to be a factor. I think the nap runs north-south or east-west, so as long as the carpet is laid so that the nap is longitudinal, rather than running across the stairs, it wouldn't make a difference whether it was north-south or south-north.
If I'm wrong, and a carpet should be laid on stairs in a specific direction and your fitter has installed it the wrong way around, I would think it strengthens your argument that it's not been fitted correctly. Otherwise it would come down to a matter of preference and since you weren't specific, your argument isn't particularly strong.0 -
The pattern of the carpet is correct when a guest walks through the front door and sees the pattern opening up ,as you would look at a vase of flowers. The 2 steps they have offered to replace must be from the same dye batch.
However as you are correct in it being wrong it would be wise to insist a representative from the manufacturer inspect or indeed contact manufacturer directly, also trading standards. All fitters are obliged by law to carry public liability insurance likewise the shop. Should you have further problems ask to see copies.

As the shop is blaming the sample book for misleading you I would contact the carpet manufacturer who supplied the sample book. Send a picture of the fitted carpet and if possible a picture of the sample in the shops book (ask a friend to do this if you think the shop may be difficult). If the manufacturer dismisses the shops claim you would have a much stronger case against them.0
