Monzo!

Hiya,

Just wondering if anyone has heard of/used Monzo? It is meant to be the 'new' type of banking, founded by a guy who is not in the banking world so its really easy to use, no delays in payments, digital, great exchange rate but its a prepaid card (for now) - any recommendations/reviews? x

I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.
  • It looks promising but right now it's just a prepaid card - not a bank account - so it won't replace a bank account (and is pretty worthless until it becomes one imho).
  • Only been using the card for three days and I got an email, text and an addition to the app asking me if I'd like to invest in the company. Errrrr........no. Thanks anyway.:rotfl:

Not sure how it's a new type of banking that doesn't include a current account - pretty essential in my book. Now sure how it would offer any advantage over my existing bank that pays me 3% on the money in my account.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

It's another round of crowdfunding which they say will be used to launch a new current account in the summer. Investors get first access to the current account and a special "Investor" debit card. Potential investors pledge from £10 to £1000 through the app and then there will be a ballot and the "lucky investors" will be asked to complete their investment.

No I'm not tempted ROFL: As will money loaded onto their prepaid card there are no guarantees.

The only benefit I can see is an instant message to tell you what you've spent and where, and the means to categorise (and possibly limit) your spending. It's just a new toy for me and, like most new toys, it will probably go in the box when I get bored.

If anyone is off out with just a Monzo card...don't.....it's down for the afternoon, at least.

In what way, card fail? My app is working...

The cards issued by Monzo like Revolut are all issued by wire card. It appears their payment processing server is having issues today according to revolut on Twitter.
