:happylove Oh she is beautiful, does she have a name?
We started some basics straight away for very short periods.
For the whistle, we would give a treat when he came to us. We extended the distance and later on when he was engrossed in something. In time, we didn't treat every time he came, sometimes just a 'good boy'.0 -
Her name is Evie
How long did it take until you scaled down the treats and replaced with a 'good boy'?0 -
Seriously cute. I've never had a puppy, but I can see the temptation. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

I have whistled trained my dog but have a few issues - if anyone can help I'd appreciate it and it may help the OP - my dog will come when I whistle but not every single time - namely if she finds something else's more interesting such as eating dog poo or a chance bone or chase a squirrel etc. if I keep blowing the whilstle and she ignores us then she surely just learns she can come when she feels like it. Any ideas? Back on the long line maybe?? Thanks0

Poppy, how old is your dog? If he's going through adolescence he may be testing the boundaries again.0

I scaled down the treats when the recall was solid/reliable but still treated with something of high value on random returns.
You aim is to be the most exciting option for your dog which is why the bonding and training with distractions is important.
If it were me and my dog did not have a solid recall, I would go back to basics. They could be in a very dangerous situation or a nuisance to others.0 -

Thanks Adandem. What high value treats do you mean...something extra yummy, or a favourite play toy? Plus lots of praise.0
