Buyers coming round unannounced

  • I'd be a lot more direct - rather than make an excuse, tell them that they are being rude. It's the only way to deal with these sort of people.

I'm sure you're not the only people they have been rude to, so by giving them a wake-up call, you're being "nice" to all the other people who have to deal with them in life.

Maybe it's because I'm from Yorkshire - I like to be direct!

  • Pointless in saying anything to the buyer since you don't want to lose the sale, so bite your lip and plot revenge.

Once the place is sold, go to the pet shop and buy a few pairs of mice (male and female). Let them lose in the garage/kitchen/garden. Leave some boxes and things so that they have somewhere to stay/eat. If possible get the mice behind the kitchen cabinets so they have time to breed. :D

Why is it 'the point where I stop being nice'? Surely you want to sell your house?

If I had a willing buyer at an agreed price, they could walk all over me and come at any time of the day or night if they wanted as long as I got my sticky hands on their cash. They're in the driving seat, after all, unless you have a very desirable house and a queue of willing buyers. Oh, and if prices were still rising....

After completion, of course, it would be a different matter........

Completely unrelated to the topic, but very much related to Yorkshire, check out Yorkshire Airlines:

No reason for posting this, just think it deserves a wider airing!

  • we're about to sell our house. i must say you're much more tolerant than i would be in the same situation!
hope it all goes well for you :)
  • Grr..I think your buyers sound like rude and unpleasant people and if it were me I'd want to beat them with a stick too. How long have you got to your completion date??? Can you grit your teeth and bear it, in the knowledge that it will all be done and dusted soon???

If they have done their survey, can't you just make noises about pulling out if they don't stop harassing you? presumably they are paying these tradesmen for their little visits also so they won't be too happy with a potential loss of cash. Time to bite back!

i had the same problem, every alternate day buyer or her relatives knock the door. They just walk in without my permission. Initially i was very polite and tolerated, but finally i told them that i live & work elsewhere and any appointments should be thru estate agents only.

Are the FTB? perhaps they don't know the etiquette BUT there's no need to be offensive/relaease mice/get revenge etc. What's wrong with the world when everyone seems to want to make other's around them unhappy? A basic explanation of why you'd prefer them to make appt with EA and have it confirmed through you are all that's needed. If you want to sell your place, you have to put up with an amount of disruption. And common courtesy to everyone costs nothing (even if they're not ploite to you, do not stoop to their level).
