Looked last night, £258.
Looked again this morning, £305
Is there a best time or should I just suck it and pay the extra now?

No, there is no best time. Prices generally tend to go up as cheaper fare classes sell out but airlines may adjust prices in light of lacking demand at any time. Prices may also decrease if there's a sale.0
