It probably doesnt exist any more. They have no reason to hold onto it and the regulators recommendation is 6 years after the debt/account no longer exists. You can spend £10 on a Subject Access Request (SAR), but that is unlikely to help as you already have documentary evidence that there was PPI. What you need is a valid and (preferably) verifiable complaint reason. Was the PPI actually suitable for your personal circumstance at the time?0 -
Is there any way of finding out when I got the credit card?
If so I may be able see if the PPI was suitable for my circumstances at the time.0 -

I know I'm not putting in a claim, I just wondered if there was any possibility that the PPI was mis-sold and if so then I would have the option of putting in a claim.
Also I wasn't making accusations of any wrong doing.
Say for example the PPI had been mis-sold, if it couldn't be proved and there's no record of the PPI then there would be no point in putting a complaint.0 -

So, it's on a 1998 statement and you didn't complain at the time, how much was charged? (it's normally between 70 to 80 pence per 100 balance)I know is was before 1998 because I have got a statement with a PPI payment on it from 1998
Do you have just the one statement or a pile of them?
Remember you only pay ppi if/when you have an outstanding balance and it would be itemised separately on the monthly statement(s).
If you normally paid the balance off each month, you wouldn't pay any ppi.0 -
I didn't even think about putting in a complaint then, I don't think mis-sold PPI was known about at that time, but I could be wrong.
The statement with the PPI payment on it in 1998 is the only one I've got.0 -
I didn't answer any phone calls or questionnaire requests for further information and all but one of my complaints were upheld, Halifax was one of those.0

It is YOU (not the Bank) who have to ascertain that the PPI was mis-sold. You identify the reasons why the PPI was mis-sold and then complain about it. I don't recommend writing to the Bank asking if the PPI was mis-sold, as they will likely answer that it wasn't.0 -

If you did put in a complaint yourself how did you go about it?
