Halifax Credit Card PPI

Hi All,
On PPI claim forms a date is required on when the policy was taken out but can't remember.
It was possibly about 1990 and before 1998.
I know is was before 1998 because I have got a statement with a PPI payment on it from 1998.
Some time after, can't remember when, I cancelled the PPI.
The credit card account is now closed and has possibly been for more than 6 years.
Also I can't remember how or where I got the credit card or the PPI do you think I have a Claim?
Thanks in advance
Andrew.

On the forms, you should answer what you do know and make it clear on things you are not sure about. In this case, you would put "unsure of date. Think it was in 1990s".Also I can't remember how or where I got the credit card or the PPI do you think I have a Claim?
You havent told us your complaint reasons in your post. So, it is impossible for us to know if you have a valid complaint or not.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Basically I think the PPI on the credit card may have been mis sold.0

In any complaint, you have to say exactly how it was mis-sold.aandrewb2001 wrote: »Basically I think the PPI on the credit card may have been mis sold.
You wouldn't complain to the police that you "may" have been burgled!0 -

Yes, we guessed that as you wouldnt be making a complaint otherwise. However, you havent told us how you think it was mis-sold. Hence, why we cannot say whether you have a case or not (as per your question).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). My complaint is, I don't remember asking for PPI on my credit card and if it was added without my consent it was mis-sold.0

Fair enough. It is a weak complaint given that you cant remember how you bought it. Plus, is was over 20 years ago. You dont have much credibility bringing up a complaint after all this time on a verbal unprovable allegation.
However, they may find something wrong elsewhere and you could get lucky.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. So basically because I can't remember how or where I got the PPI, even if it was mis-sold it's probably not worth putting in a claim.0

Understand that you are not "claiming".aandrewb2001 wrote: »So basically because I can't remember how or where I got the PPI, even if it was mis-sold it's probably not worth putting in a claim.
You are making an accusation of wrong doing.
It's not the Bank's fault that you can't remember agreeing to an insurance policy two decades ago, but you can expect any records which may still exist to show that you did agree to it.
As such, if you make such a weak "complaint", you will be reliant on the Bank finding something else wrong with the original sale as part of their investigation.
So you may get lucky or you may not, but your complaint is a very weak one.0 -

You can still complain. Its just that your complaint is unprovable and weak and you are relying either on another failure being spotted or the redress being lower than their auto-payout amount. By all means give it a go. Its just that the odds are lower than a complaint with a stronger complaint reason that is provable.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Would it be worth asking the Halifax for a copy of the credit card application/agreement?0
