Icelandair to New York

Has anyone used Icelandair to New York via Iceland? I was just wondering how it went, what planes and service is like. Coming up very reasonable for my flights to Newark.

It's even cheaper if I book via Omega flights, if anyone has any knowledge of them?
Actually I've just read some terrible reviews about Omega.

For the return journey back to the UK, do you think you'd get much sleep overnight?

I'm not too bothered about that. It's a Saturday so I can go to bed.

As long as you know what you are letting yourself in for, it may be a good deal, although avoid Omega like the plague. You do get a free baggage allowance but you pay for meals and the headsets for the entertainment, your journey is broken after 3 hours or so, great if you are travelling alone, not so great with 3 screaming kids!

The planes are narrow bodied 757's and the airport in Iceland can become a bit of a scrum as they try to move thousands from incoming to outgoing flights within an hour and a half or so. As previously mentioned, the return flights mean transferring in what feels like the middle of the night, if you are saving a lot of money fine but I wouldn't do it to save £50!

It's £200 cheaper than doing Manchester to Newark via Dublin. Do you think it's worth the extra £200. That's for 2 people but I'll be paying it. No young children going.

I found them really good and would certainly use again. As another poster said they fly mainly narrow bodied Boeing 757 aircraft in 3-3 layout. Some people don't like these for long haul, but I found them very comfortable. Leg room and seats were good. Seat back TVs with on demand films and tv shows etc. They also have a couple of wide body Boeing 767s although I don't think they go to Newark.

Soft drinks were free you had to pay for alcoholic drinks. There is no free food which is something to bare in mind. However for the flight times involved I didn't find this a problem. Food at Reykjavik airport was very good. Transfer experience was fine at Reykjavik. Busy but it went fine.

You could also look into, if time allows, having a stop in Iceland. From
Memory they offer this on the inbound or outbound for upto 5 days with no increase in airfare. A night or two in Reykjavik is great.

I'd recommend. I don't think Aer Limgus offer anything worth £200 more to be honest. Pre clearance of US Immigration at Dublin is great but not sure if it's worth £200!

Thanks that's very helpful.Don't think we can do a stopover this time as it's a fairly short trip. Must say I would prefer Dublin. I'm just watching prices atm as not travelling until September. Just getting nervous watching them fluctuate each day.

What sort of prices are you looking at? Have you ran the search through Kayak? They now give a recommendation of whether to buy or not based on past data and trends. Obviously it isn't gospel, as Kayak don't know what Airlines will do any more than the rest of us.

I've got a price of about £353 with expedia via Iceland. £458 via dublin. There are prices around £330 via Iceland but I'm not sure about some of the booking agents. yes I use Kayak and skyscanner. I hadn't noticed the recommendations. I'll have another look.
