TalkTalk phone line - can I have a different broadband provider?

I've been offline at home now for nearly 4 weeks. Basically it seems I need a new modem, and 3 times I've chased TalkTalk to find out when it's coming. They keep making excuses and saying it's on it's way, but nothing ever arrives.
The thing is, it's such a cheap phone + broadband package that I don't really want to move anywhere else, but I'm getting really fed up. It's the first problem I've had with them but I just can't seem to get anywhere. I finally told them I'm going to swith providers yesterday and they didn't even seem to care, and basically said "fine" they won't chase up where my modem is. So it seems I've shot myself in the foot. Where can I go from here? Can I still keep my TalkTalk phoneline and get my broadband from somewhere else? Everything seems too expensive.:o

If your service from Talk Talk is via LLU, then you will not be able to get your broadband from another provider, have a look at the T&Cs above.
If you still pay BT for you line rental then you are free to move.

  • Sorry but what's LLU?

Maybe I should just swallow my pride, give them another call and try again to resolve the situation. As I said, threatening to leave doesn't seem to have worked.

LLU Local loop unbundling, read about it in the T&C link.

It means that TT have their equipment installed in BTs exchange, once BT have moved you to Talk Talks equipment, TT provide you with both BB and Telephone services, and you cannot use a third party broadband supplier unless you cancel the whole contract with them.

Local loop unbundling is where a Service Provider migrates you from BT's part of your local exchange and puts you on to their equipment.

A quick way to check if you are unbundled is to ring 150 from your landline, if you are unbundled it will go to Talktalk Customer Services.
tiscali have unbundled my line, and iptv is available on my exchange, hello fair usage policy, hello congestion.
