O/S Daily Monday 27 February 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light here, damp underfoot and cooler, but not raining at the moment.

DH up and gone to work, DS1 now getting ready for work, and DS2 still in his pit.

I did a cooked brekkie yesterday, then boys looked after themselves whilst we were out, and we stopped off for something to eat en route home, restaurant was very busy - normally when we get there it's just finished the lunchtime rush and before the evening but they found us a table and we didn't wait too long for our food despite it being busy. Dinner tonight will be smoked sausage, bacon and mushroom pasta in a creme fraiche sauce.

Yesterday's meeting was ok and well attended although they need more volunteers if that doesn't happen the centre will close - we could go back to being more involved but with DH's work being so busy that's not really a possibility. There's a big amount of retired people that attend and unfortunately a lot of "takers" and the "givers" seem to be the same people all the time, we were actively involved for 10 years whilst DH worked full time and myself part time and bringing up a young family, we'll see what happens. We had a good time catching up with our friends though.

Back to work for me today - we'll see what today brings, hoping for a manic Monday at the day just flies by.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

Thanks for the thread nmlc. It's getting light here already, just hope it doesn't rain as much as last night, there was hail hitting the windows sometime during the night that woke me up - but only briefly!

Back to work again, Mondays come around so quickly then off to see a friend later who has a friend visiting that I've not seen for ages so quite looking forward to that.

The weekend's washing is on the pulley and lunch made.

Hope you all have a good week. Take care. XX
  • Good morning, it is getting light here but looks a bit soggy. Not cold though.

Visited my DS yesterday and saw other family. I usually go up by train and this involves several changes, a real slog. I had planned a visit in December but wasnt well and didnt want to spread thd lurgy. This time we all went so OH drove, much quicker though it probably would not be on a weekday. DM well enough but very tired as she is a full time carer for her DH with carers coming in to get him up and washed and to help him to bed. He is a tall man and DM can't lift him, fortunately my sis is nearby though she has a busy life.

I must get ready for work, not really looking forward to it. I have a teaching/mentoring thing to do today and that's on a one to one basis, need to arrange some group sessions.
    Then my own work later.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Looks like it might rain today looks a bit grim out there. Off to work for me today why do the weekends go so fast ?? got my car cleaned out and taken all my bits out of it (its amazing how much stuff you keep in a car ! ) my friend and her husband are coming to collect the old car tomorrow evening so I shall be car-less till the next morning .

Not sure about dinner tonight it might be meatballs or I thin there is some fish in the freezer and I have some new potatoes and veg.

Did washing marathon over the weekend, all I seemed to do was washing/ drying, still its all done and away (for now)

Right better get on have good days al xx
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC for starting us off. It's fine at the minute here but rain is on it's way apparently!

After going through a boxful of tissues and sneezing for England all day yesterday, I think my cold is drying up a bit. Everywhere ached, even my eyes! Now I just hope it doesn't progress to the dreadful cough which is doing the rounds and so hard to shift.

We have the tedious journey back to Leeds again today for Mr TA's fasting bloods. So the pleasure of two buses and one train as usual. They can't be done nearer to home as the bloods have to be sent to Sheffield and our local hospital doesn't send samples there. They expect the results to take about 2 weeks and the specialist NET nurse will be in touch as regards what's happening next. More waiting and worrying.

We'll probably have a quick lunch in Leeds when back down from St James. After starving all morning Mr TA will be ready for something to sustain him on the return trek home. There's a plate of yesterday's lunch in the fridge which he can have warmed up tonight. I'll rustle something quick up for myself.

Have a good day folks and (HUGS) for the poorlies, worried and sad who want one. Take care whatever you are up to xx

    Morning everyone.

Camelot - that rain woke me too at about 2.45am, it was battering on the windows as if were nails. Now it's all calm but soggy.

That's the birthday over for another year and I feel no different. :) cards are on the mantelpiece looking pretty, this years crop are particularly lovely with only one joke card. My closest cousin phoned from Berlin for a long chat, he had been due to attend the 90th birthday celebration of my mothers / his fathers first cousin but he died one hour before midnight. So, the party became a 'wake'.

I'm off again down to Glasgow and back doing a pick up from the new QEU hospital. It's something I could do without but don't want to let them down. Putting back pictures and photos onto my walls will have to wait until tomorrow.

I've plenty of food as I came home with a parcel of leftovers from the weekend.

Right, off to make a start. I hope that everyone is doing well and those who are under the weather soon perk up.

    Happy Monday to all.
  • Good morning everyone. The weather seems calm here, and bright enough. though late yesterday afternoon the wind got up and it was really gusty, and it rained for a while.

Got last minute stuff to do today, I'm getting my hair done, and will do more suitcase gazing. There's a prescription to pick up, and general tidying to do. Yesterday we went to a local shopping centre and OH bought a thin jacket to take to Oz, It'll be cooling down a bit there, but still warm by our standards.
I spent a N*xt gift card I'd received for my birthday, added a bit to it and got a pair of chinos and a top, very nice.

Your cold sounds nasty TA, hope you'll soon pick up, and you'll be anxious about your OH. It's hard isn't it, carrying on as normal, when you've got worries in the back of your mind.

Hope everyone has as good a day as possible.

Ta, I hope you journey is as easy as it can be. We are also going to the hospital this morning for a follow up after DH's kidney problems last year. We know he has 3 stones in his other kidney so hopefully they will be monitored to make sure he doesn't have the same problem.

I had a lovely day yesterday as all the family came to have brunch with us, although the shed didn't get moved because on closer inspection the floor had rot in it. DH has now ordered a new one and at least the base is all in place ready after his hard work of the last couple of weekends.

DD and SIL stayed for dinner which was roast lamb and all the trimmings, I'd also made a birthday cake for her and DIL who has her birthday on this coming Saturday. DS is taking her away to a gorgeous looking spa on Friday night. She is telling her firm that she is definitely leaving today so I hope they don't give her too hard a time.

    Morning all,

Weather was pretty bad here too. I thought storm Doris had gone. I think it left a bit behind.

TA. Will be thinking of you today. Hope all goes well at the hospital.

Lots to do in the house today there's brick dust everywhere due to holes being drilled in walls and cable being pushed through. Sadly it's all a waste of time as I told him.. We don't have prowlers. Never mind. I just need to find a desert Island somewhere. Still, that's never going to happen.

Hubby working in Cheltenham and Youngest in Gloucester today.

Spose I'd best get moving. Lots to do and all that.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all

    Morning everyone,

Late start for me today as I was up with Rosie dog in the night, she had an accident in the house which despite her age rarely happens but always upsets her so I stayed up with her for a while.
Thank you all for your kind birthday wishes, I had a lovely day and the lunch out was delicious, yes I did have a large glass of wine as well :)
Off out again tonight as DB wants to take me out for a treat, poor me eh ;) I have chosen to go to a Greek restaurant in Cambridge, least that way can stay relatively healthy food wise. From what my SIL said last week my DB is struggling a bit so will do us good to spend some time just the two of us, he might open up a bit to his big sis.
Towels need changing and will whizz through with the vacuum but that's about it.
Have a good day everyone, get well wishes to all poorlies especially TA
    Take care folks x
  • Morning (((((((((( hugs )))))))))) if you need one.

A bit better this morning, feel slightly more human, but going to take it steady. Had a much better nights sleep, did not have to get up for the toilet, so things must be getting better there too.

A small Monday clean OH will help me change the dreaded duvet. We are going to try the roll it up technique, see how it goes, could be fun,mor just downright frustrating.

Dry just now, sun trying to break through the mist.
